Trance music in a decline??

Does anyone else feel like all Trance music just sounds the same now? I used to listen to a lot of different trance dj's. But for the past I'd say year or so I'd much rather listen to minimal, techno, Prog house pretty much anything that sounds dark and or smooth. The only trance dj I can really stand to listen to at this point is Christopher Lawrence. Does anyone else kinda feel the same way or is it just me?

dude i kinda hear you ... but I can't tell if it's because the music has gone downhill or if it's just me having listened to trance for way too long. Back in '99 when I first started listening to trance, I rememeber I would just go on Kazaa and download ANY random mp3 that had "trance" in it ... and 90% of it would sound amazing to me. It was just the feel and style of the music that was new to me. Naturally, you can't keep reacting to the same style of music like that forever. Eventually, more and more things stop impressing you and your library of trance that you actually consider "good trance" diminishes. So I don't know if that can be blamed on the quality of the music or just the simple fact that most of us trance heads are coming up on our 10th fuckin year listening to 4x4's haha

You may have missed the memo, but minimal isn't cool anymore. On top of that, it blows.

Personally I feel that there is still good trance out there but it is much harder to find partially due to the fact that some producers keep churning out tracks like nobody's bussiness to make a dollar or two and the end result is many of their tracks sounding the same, then afterwards..here comes the noob producer on the block thinking...oh I have to sound like "this" in order to make it, so instead of creating something original he copies the sound of the exsisting producers who became successful. This results in most DJ's having to sift through a bunch of really shitty tracks before they find something worthy of playing. At times there is also an issue of comparison, say you have listened to 30 shitty tracks, the next track thats even halfway decent is going to sound amazing because you just endured so much trash when in actuality the track is only halfway decent so it's a good idea to listen again just to be sure.

If you have been listening to trance for a long time I would hope that at this point your standards are pretty high so you probably feel trance sucks because you don't care to put the effort into searching so hard for great tracks whereas you may be attracted to the sounds of another genre that you have been listening to less much easier. I also notice that this also varies month to month depending on the quality of releases for that set time period.

I personally love trance and I won't give up on it that easily. I am part of the group of people who have been listening for a while, have high standards, and are willing to put in the effort to look for fresh new producers, and anything that sounds creative and interesting.

Agreed, I had a convo about this with one of my friends and basically we said the same thing. There's just a serious lack of innnovation in Trance right now, someone has to come out with a new sound. But some trance is still good I do still listen to Rush hour.

Some guys who I think are making amazing (and different sounding) trance right now are guys like Marcus Scossow and Moonbeam. Its not all "hands in the air" type stuff, but its really well made. They do a great job of fusing multiple genres into their trance productions.

Patrick Placie & Frank Ellrich - Sticky Tape (Marcus Schossow Remix)

Moonbeam - About You
