I started a religion today

So I was staring at the bio section of my facebook thingy today, wondering what the hell to put for "religion". There wasn't enough space to put what I wanted, so I have decided to post my religious views to the public for their inspection and general harassment.

I am hoping to find some like minded individuals who would be willing to help me as I continue to flesh out the details of this belief system. Writing all this stuff out and organizing the people who hold these ideas into some sort of group is long overdue.

I know you are gonna think this is stupid, but I put it on my blog, which is my first blog post in like 3 years (the last one was "music is the drug, I call bullshit" but I deleted it because of the dramas)

Anyway, I would really appreciate come comments on the thing, and if anyone has some ideas as to what I should write out from here, please, let me know.

go there, and lol at my stupid blog

Oh ok, that convinced me that it isn't stupid.

You haven’t really provided any argument as to why you think there is a god.

yeah I guess all I have for that point somethingto the effect of "people who assume that everything can be explained by logic are a bunch of dicks", hmmmm

it is a very cyclical and unfun argument to make though, and other people have already written it better than I could, what I have provided is not the assertion that there is a divine being or all powerful creator.

My argument is instead that there are gaps in human comprehension, and it is useful to provide heuristics for such gaps. It is convenient to call these heuristics "God", although the name of it really doesn't matter.

it doesn't have to be an intelligent being though, this notion that humans can somehow personify and describe the thing that is "God" is a bit absurd to me.

God isn't necessarily confined in little circles that make up the holes in our understanding of the universe.

Perhaps an example would be appropriate.

Time, wtf is it, where did it "come from"

who the hell knows, its just there, if it makes you feel better to make a giant statue of a cuttlefish with wings and a human body, operating some grand clock in the center of the sun, and refer to the figure depicted in the statue as "God", then that is fine. it is good for humans to do this when they don't have other options to turn to.

In hindsight, that does sound a lot like "god of the gaps" doesn't it? I guess that wouldn't make you feel any better, oh well I guess it isn't for everybody. If it makes you feel any better we can create a plurality of deities with different names to fill the gaps as we find them, the pantheon isn't really all that important to the system, only the acceptance in the insignificance of humans in the grand scheme, and allowance for the human tendency to create myth to explain things.

So your god is an impersonal god?

I suppose that will come in a sequel post, where I have to explain the source of morality and all that shit.

I have a good rant about it in the works, I still need to figure out a sane and tasteful way of wording it, but the gist of it is, that anything mighty enough to concern himself with the mechanics of the entire fucking universe, is highly unlikely to give a shit about the affairs of some insignificant dot that is populated by a bunch of tiny moving specks that think of themselves as more important to him/her/it/they than they really are.

Not saying that as a result we should do whatever the hell we want, but this old guy in the sky telling us to build boats because he is about to kill everything in a giant flood stuff, no, my view does not hold that shit like that is happening.

I do often admire the way events unfold though, and like to think that there might be something like karma in the world, and superstitions are cute, can you imagine how boring the world might be if you just boiled everything down to hard logic? This is a hard point for me to address, I don't want to be a fence straddling douche. I want to let a person who things God told him to do something to keep on thinking it, I don't want God's will being used as justification for stupid or terrible things. My stance on it is that God doesn't give a shit about human affairs, but may use humans for amusement from time to time.

I don't beleive that there is a divine source of morality, I believe that maintaining a moral standard is the responsibility of Man, and they should stop trying to use cheap cop outs like God to explain to people why it is a good thing not to steal or rape or murder.
