DAW questions

Hi guys,

I was just wondering, since I'm in the market for a new DAW, what kind of computers are you using (PC). I'm reading posts here about layering 11 pads or something, If I would try that on my pc, it would blow right out of the window.

So, what kind of DAW's are you guys using? My idea is to go for the Core i7, but I would like to hear some experiences with your DAW's.

Thanks

Isn't that the equivelant for what we use here

But to clearify:

What PC are you using (specs), and what can you do with it in terms audio production?

Amd Phenom 2 Quad-Core 3.2ghz
8 gigs of ddr3 Mushkin 1066
Asus Am3 Mobo
Nvidia 8800gtx

Runs great, can handle anything I throw at it, so far. Since I built this pc, my latest project features over 70 vsti and vst so far and my cpu hits like 30-38%.

Damn, and what type of vst's are you running than?
I'm planning to buy a i7 core 920, so that's 2.66ghz, and I intend to OC it to 3,5/3,6 (which should be easily possible). I just want to make sure I have enough power.

The term DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) includes computer as well.
Way to many people throw out the term "DAW" nowdays, without really knowing what it really means. Many people seem to think it's just another word for the music software, which is wrong.

All kinds of vsts, I have way more vsts than hardware.

Gladiator, Nexus, Genesis, Warmverb, Emphasizer, Krishna, Jupiter 8v, most Audio Damage plugs , ect. ect. ect. the list goes on. On most tracks I use several eq's and compressors, plus I heavily process my sends. Like I wont just put a reverb, I will shape it with many other plugs and so on. So far, since my new pc, I have never frozen again.

Wiki quote:
A digital audio workstation (DAW) is an electronic system designed to record, edit and play back digital audio. A key feature of DAWs is the ability to freely manipulate recorded sounds. Many DAWs, especially computer-based DAWs, have MIDI recording, editing, and playback capabilities.

Wow, those are pretty high cpu plugs. I really have a high expectation of my i7 to come now .

Asus mobo based i7 is the way to go, in NL just order from alternate online. for vid i would choose the cheapest passive DVI based card, unless you want to play the latest games as well, less fans means less noise and less Mflops means less heat. is lower system noise for cooling
regarding OCíng I would only start to do thatonce you run out of juice. as again higher Mhz is more heat is higher fan rotation. is more noise

J.J., you should also check www.4launch.nl, their Eindhoven based and much cheaper than alternate.

You are right about OCing, but I do net intend to mount the Intel stock cooler, I will probably go for a thermalright or Nexus. Also, a fan with a larger diameter will run slower, thus more silent, so I'm getting a larger fan.
