Just got a Jp-8000, need some good trancy sounds, suggestions???

Hey guys and girls, i just purchased a Jp-8000 a few months back and keep in mind im upgrading from a Radioshack Casio keyboard here. I went on a few forums similar to this to ask questions before buying it if it was right to play and make trance on and everyone pointed me to the Jp, so i bought one on ebay. First thing out of the box i noticed it was a big step up from my prior keyboard and i knew I would need some help so i bought a dvd that teaches you how to use it. It is fine and all its just i don't know how to make a good sound, i have a good ear for playing something i hear but sound creation and technical jargin isn't my strong point.

That being said i am going to go the easy way and want to buy a few sounds packs for it. I looked some up online and for 64 sounds you get quite alot of bang for your buck.

http://www.rb2k1.com/sounddesign.htm This place looks to most promising but the only problem is alot of the sounds sound alike. Don't get me wrong i like some of the sounds on there but im looking for more wet sounds and appegiators.

To get an idea of the sounds im into my favorite trance artist is chicane, saltwater, poppiholla and offshore are really good. I also like Above and boyond, ATB, Alex morph.

Finally, if anyone knows any other product similar to this that has some really gripping nice sounds that they can show me where to get or whatever id be greatful.

Thankyou, Ryan.

Congrats on the JP8000, it's a great synth.

I'm moving this thread to the Production Studio though

you are 15 years late. clumsy synth imo. awesome sound though but most software can do the same now. but if you like to have hands on then its not to argue. but still the interface is abit clumsy.

Just do a factory reset, most presets will work fine for trance
just add some resonance and lower the cut-off a bit.
crank the delay and reverb and instant trance
the supersaw preset gives you instant RANK1

To cut it short, it's extremely difficult not to sound trance with the JP.

There are a lot of decent sounds in the Vengeance soundsets.
Another one I've found worthwhile is the Mystery Islands soundset:

For what it's worth, the third JP8080 soundset (X-Plorations Vol 3) is my favourite, there are plenty of good sounds in there. I'd say listen to all the demo mp3s, that could give you a feel for which soundsets are the most useful for you.

I tried making some sounds for my own but it didn't really work to well. Ive had the synth a few months now and its just gathering dust. Most of the preset sounds are garbage IMO, theres only a few I like but some of them you can only hit one key at a time so theres no bottom had. Id rather have descent sounds from a soundpack that i can get from a website to start off with and go from there.

Also to the person who said i could get better sounds from software, im not into software. I downloaded fruity loops/FL studio and it was good but i like to be more hands on like you said.

Lastly, the person who suggested the sounds for the Jp8000/8080, would i need to get an 8080 aswell?

Thankyou

The JP80xx is a very easy editable synth, if you browse through the presets play with the ADSR & filters and you can't find any sounds you like, then the JP is not for you.

The JP has a character which is has been hugely used in late ninetees and is quite gentle/soft/mellow if you look for more "bite" you will not find that in the JP

The 8080 is the rack version of the 8000. A few slight differences in terms of features, but nothing dramatic. The patches will sound the same on both.

You missed the point, downloading FL and messing with the native synths isn't going to give you an idea of how good a software synth can be. Try demos of something like Sylenth1, Gladiator or Predator. These are common 'trance' softsynths. I have all 3 and use them a lot, sometimes in place of sounds from my Virus B and Nord Rack. Of course, a softsynth will always be limited by your processor / RAM, so consider this.

The point being made to you was that modern softsynths sound as good if not better than a JP-8000 as it is now around 11 years old, like my Virus B.

Don't get drawn into a hardware / software debate though, use what works for you.

Any softsynth or JP could stand in in above productions, the difference between what you hear and what oyu want to hear is a naked synth and a synth fully processed in a finished track.

Your requirements will be more about production skills than weapon of choice. I assure you, you will even be more dissapointed when you buy a MOOG Voyager and listen to that unprocessed
