What note for non-melodic sounds?

As music theory is not my strong point I typically stick to C major, and so far all those bass hits and other non-melodic sounds like screaming lead hits or anything that dosent vary from the one note have all been placed on C, but I dont know if this is the right approach. I try moving it away from the root note but it sounds wrong (perhaps because I quickly become used to the sound of that note?).

Is the point of a scale to have a root note that you use like this? otherwise whats the difference between C major and A minor?

Anyway, just wondering if there are any rules of thumb with these things, or if it falls into the "do whatever sounds good" basket like everything else.

Thanks in advance

I suggest you get a basic music theory book...

Anyway, the sounds you are mentioning can be any of the scale you want to stick to...

Most likely they should not be dissonant with the chord that is playing simultaneously in other tracks...unless that is intended...

I'm sorry, I don't make much sense ...

The point isn't to "get out of your body", it's to bring awareness to your consciousness while you're experiencing another reality.
