Using an Audio Interface Like a Soundcard?

I just got an audio interface, an M-AUDIO Fast Track Pro... works fine with my DAW... but I can't figure out how to get it to work as my laptop's default sound device.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I'm going to assume that you are using Windows, as you did not specify what operating system you were using. If that is indeed the case, you need to set the M-AUDIO device as your default audio device in the Sound & Audio Devices in Control Panel.

Yeah, I'm using Windows Vista, sorry for not specifying.

I just set it as the default device, it's called "S/PDIF" and then has "Fast Track Pro" under it. When I play music, or sound on my laptop, it does indeed show that sound is being played... but I am not hearing anything.

You'll need to set it to the proper output. S/PDIF is a digital output, so unless you are using that then you'll need to set it to one of the analog outputs.

Choose Fast Track Pro.

I was too vague apparently, Fast Track Pro was a sub-heading of S/PDIF, same icon. The only other option is Line 1/2 with the same sub-heading.

I made myself sound retarded, yes.

The Line 1/2 does not work either.

Do you actually have speakers plugged into outputs on the Fast Track Pro? Which outputs?
