What Key Detection Software Is Most Accurate

I searched the forum and was surprised there was no threads on this.

I'd like a discussion on what software has the best key detection algorithm available, a great tool to the art of harmonic mixing. As far as I know, there's 4 programs that offer a key detection functionality to date. They are: Mixmeister, MixShare's Rapid Evolution, Mixed In Key, and VirtualDJ.

What software has the most accurate and most reliable key detection? Which of these programs would you recommend? Are there other softwares that I have not mentioned?

This is the only thread I've found that compares (three of) these programs, but the latest results are from 2007. We need up to date benchmarking!

What key detection software has the highest accuracy rate in the midst of 2009?

Well that depends on the ear

But you're definately right. With a piano you can easily key your tracks, but you know the deal.. It takes time. Alot.. of time, for a substantial collection of music.

Alot of pros use "Mixed in Key" and from my own experience I'd say it works really well. I'm not sure how the competition stands up to it though..sorry

yeah but this is the thing

regardless of whose ear it is, all the music you have keyed with it will probably be consistent among one another

plus you might actually have to listen carefully to your records.

Good point. This is also true for the different keying softwares, as I've heard they key tracks differently but respectively consistent. You should never use two different algorithms to key the music, or two different pairs of ears for that matter.

But none of the programs are 100% accurate on all songs and there will be glitches here and there within the same program also, hence it would be nice to know which has the best algorithm and the highest accuracy rate.

In the link previously posted the program that tops the list is RE2 (Rapid Evolution), with an accuracy rate of 70%. But this was in August 2007, and algorithms have developed further now.

That is correct, different programs will most certainly give you different results.

For the record we are constantly working on improving the key detection of Mixed In Key. To our knowledge we use the only key detection system that will have it's own patent (pending approval). Generally we have stayed away from official comparisons though. The entire process can be rather suggestive, and we would rather focus on helping DJs sound great.
