Ruined dining experiences

We've all been there. A shitty waiter/waitress or a snooty one at a higher class establishment; maybe having nobody show up to your table after you've been sitting there for 10 minutes... Whatever the case, I love going out to good restaurants regularly but I can't stand having poor hospitality ruin my dining experience.

Seems like it's getting worse these days... or is it just me? Any of you guys notice a trend in the wrong direction?

courtesy as a whole, at a restaurant, cinema, or anywhere isn't the same as it used to be. i've thought of that when i watch movies on TCM & i see how nice it was to go out for a nice evening and how waiters/waitresses treated people.

i'm the same about good service and i'm not lenient either and i should be because i was a waitress once. but that sort of made me more critical i think because the restaurant i worked at was nice and there was a great system implemented that involved everyone helping out, didn't matter if it's their table or not.

the hostess lays a card folded a certain way when she seats someone. once the drink order has been taken (has to be in a minute or less), the waitor has to flip it so everyone knows the table has been greeted. drinks need to be on the table in 2 minutes (unless they come from the bar then a little longer). and you are NOT allowed to pass by a table that hasn't been greeted without stopping to get their drink order.

so yea if i'm at a restaurant and i'm sitting there for a good 5-8 minutes before someone takes our drink order or even acknowledges us, i'm pissed.

and i'd say that my worst dining experience was actually on my birthday last year. i decided to keep it simple and just invite a few friends to go to a restaurant for dinner and everyone would pay their own way. i had 7 confirmed RSVPs and my mom and boyfriend were with me.

yea, no one showed LOL everyone completely flaked out at the last minute i was like "wow nice fucking friends jamie"

i got over that part quickly and thought, "fuck it i'm with 2 people i love on my birthday (mom & bf)" but NOOOOO i had to have some shitty ass waitress too. the service was so bad that i comlained to the manager before i left. i explained it was my birthday and that we saw our waitress only once (when she took our order) and that was it. i told him i used to be a waitress and i know how it is, but that it was unacceptable.

i got a huge platter of these delicious cookies and a huge teddybear delivered to my work the following day from the manager of the restaurant. lol we had communicated through email because he got my information before i left the place.

lol... the other day, me + 5 friends were eating outside at this restaurant. The waiter took forever to bring out our drinks after taking the drink order, but he apologized for taking so much time when he delivered them. But then, it took him forever to come back and take our food order, forever to bring our food, and forever to bring our checks when we asked. I was wondering, why the fuck would he acknowledge and apologize for his tardiness after the drinks, then proceed to do the same shit through the rest of the meal? We were there for 2.5 hours for what should have been 1. WTF!

Bachelor party 28 starving/thirsty men.

One waitress

Geez I gave them big shit, by the time she brought the drinks and took orders for the next round, the first drinks were already empty.

I gave shit to the manager telling him that one waitress is not enough, so he started serving us too.

It took us 4+ hours to eat that night

Ugh... I know what you mean man. If they know a party of 28 is coming in, you'd think they would plan to have about 5 waiters ready to go. Was this a local joint or a well known chain?

i had a waitress finish her shift during our meal(6 guys), and no one replaced her on our table, we waved down another waitress but she ignored us and so did the bartender. so i said fuck it let's leave. and we did. and that place ate a $200 bill haha! serves them right for being oblivious to a shift change

Tipping is for the birds. See this? This is the worlds smallest violin playing just for those poor waitresses.

I love stories like these. I am very picky about eating at restaurants for the exact reason that some of you have been mentioning, there is always a possibility that the experience will not be very good. Luckily, I think restaurants around here are usually pretty well run, but I've had my share of experiences where I've had to wait way longer for service than I ideally should. Also, I hate it when you get your food and it's not what you were expecting/it sucks.

I'm going to start being more critical of the service I receive from now on

It's really inexcusable for a waitress/waiter hostess/host to provide poor service. And if it's not the individual's fault, and it's in fact the restaurant that under-resourced, then they really don't deserve the business.

It's just really hard to leave a restaurant once you've sat down, I guess, since you really wanna eat.

I did it a couple of times, after 5-10 mins of no vital sign from the staff, we just bounced out. But don't plan on bouncing if you don't make it known to the manager that you left because of poor service. Because the move would be useless.

The trick is not to be starving.
