practise , practise, practise.
master the basics,
then practise somemore. one thing>> dont get down heartened from mistakes and trainwreks, try and learn from your mistakes, cos i used to get really pissed off wen my beatmatching was off.
but then just belive in yourself and it will come,
so go practise.
sorry i couldnt help much , heh

It's good to start mixing with epic tracks. By this I mean tracks that are usually 9+ minutes long and have very long intros and exits. This will help you a lot because you can take the time to try and beat match it without the worry that the track is going to end or you'll trainwreck the mix. It doesn't have to sound proffessional right off the bat, the mix only has to beatmatched for your ears. My biggest way of learning is listening to my own mixes and listening to where I can improve. Listen to other dj's mixes too and try to see how they do it. Also read up on the fundamental ideas of beatmatching, because no matter how much you think you know now, I guarentee you can always learn new things by reading another person's perspective of it. Also these forums are a great place to read up on all sorts of things from equipment, techniques, tips, tricks and how/where to get things from.

OK, My Suggest is not Technical, just like DJSW Said, u will get errors, trainwrecks, but when that happened and when u fill very frustated, just turn off toyr mixer and TTs, abd back in a few hours later and try again, that worked for me.
another Suggestion: whatever u do, never buy BPM Counters to beatmatch, just do it with your ears.
There are some Guides in the web that are usefull for Learn, i dont have the URL right now, but if someone dont post any, i will later.

Seee ya, Good Luck.

Cool

just practise, and spend as much time as u can on ur dex, i got mine on saturday nite, set em up, and sorted the room, used em on sunday for about 7 hours, skived off on monday and spent over 12 hours on them, i could beatmatch on tuesday, by the end of the week i could keep the lock and kno which way to move the vinyl most of the time. its all down to time on the dex, and despite what is said, a musical ear does help.

Yeah dude. I got my Tech 1200's in May. I'm gonna have to agree with everything already said. I also recommend that url posted above. Spend a couple of hours every other day, and you will see leaps and bounds in your improvement. I am at the point where I am not really seeing much improvement because I am trying to figure out how to phase match and use EQ's. Keep at it man. Good Luck

Practice...

It was pretty easy for me to learn to beatmatch, but that's because I'm a classically trained musician who's been playing in large groups for a while... so I know how to count music and know how to find the start of a bar in my sleep, and in general can feel the internal PULSE of a piece.

But I digress. Go practice until you get it down.
