What do you do, what would you like to do?

Ok, I'm almost done with highschool. This upcoming year is my senior year. I still have not decided on what I want to pursue after I finish school. I was thinking something along the lines of sound engineer, or some kind of manager since I like dealing with money. Still have no idea though, my brother is good with computers and said that he was conned into thinking about things too early and now he has a job he doesn't like and is paying off a lot of debt from student loans and living on his own. But....I'm almost done with highschool, I think I SHOULD be worrying about what I'm going to do next. I have to start thinking seriously about this. So, the purpose of this thread is that I need ideas. So I'm going to ask you two questions, feel free to elaborate.

What do you currently do?

What would you like to do/are currently pursuing?

Dude I fucking slacked off and played video games for 2 years after high school, when I finally decided to do some more school I was all signed up and ready to go and then I got offered a good job, so I took that.

Wasted 3 years of my life as an underpaid, overworked, and disrespected software developer.

Now I'm back doing nothing till I find another job.

Just do whatever, don't worry, shit falls into place a lot of times. If you are over analyzing stuff and going fucking nuts thinking things over you are going to miss the natural opportunities.

Get a credible job (i.e in a semi-decent restaurant, doing paperwork for a respectable law firm) and work for a couple of years.

You will figure out what you want to do eventually. In the meantime, save enough money to support yourself when you decide to further your education, buy a house or go on a big holiday.

If you don't work now, it will look awful on your resume unless you have an excuse (i.e being overseas).

go to college, if you fall in love with a subject that isn't practical (ie majoring in a language) major in that and something practical. do as many internships as you can and/or volunteer so that you figure out quickly what you like and don't like plus when you graduate you'll have more experience and can therefore ask for more money. do informationals too...

To his defense, Trump didn't even really look like a bum.

a big +1 to that

@OP - you will change your mind so many times from the time you graduate high school to the point where you actually start your final career that it's silly to overplan your future now. get a general idea of your interests and work with that for the time being.

i personally only started to really figure out what i wanted within the last year, and i'm 24

I took a year off after high school and kinda regret it kinda don't. But don't you have 2 years of doing general education classes before you start doing shit for the career of your choice? I know lots of people who still don't know what they want to do. For me, I want to be an R.N. Going to do two years of community college and then transfer to a university. Not sure if I want to stay here though....

I'm hoping to be doing field studies in central america this winter, learing about cultures in what is left of their natural environment.
Sound is a hobby of mine and I've taken a few music courses, and am intending on taking two more music related courses this fall term, physics of high fidelity sound reproduction and Designing with Digital Sound. IMO music is 80% networking, 10% equipment use, and 10% talent. Berkely has a world reknowned music technology program.

specifically

http://cnmat.berkeley.edu/
I think this may depend a lot on your option - SATS etc.. economics etc.. You do have time to switch your program after the first year sometimes, the question is local or away. UMASS or massu etc.. You could speak with your local school counsellor. Do you have professional musicians in your family or family freinds, or friends? The actual industry, agents etc.. would be lengthy to explain - personally I don't expect to ever make a career of this but handfulls of people do, but I'd say there is a plethora of amateur musicians out there.

If you are serious you might try a school that offers a Co-Op program that offers industry placement (even better if paid) at a music industry place such as a label or studio, do some internships and work from there.

Lots of options with money too, banking, accountancy, economics etc..

What the fuck are you doing giving someone else advice on anything other than how to store your own feces in a jar

Dear high school student, stay as far away from this man as possible.
