Mixxx 1.7.0 Released (free open source dj software)

Last year, on this very day I wrote about how Mixxx 1.6.0 had just been released.

Today, we're releasing 1.7.0 to the general public after going through a rigorous beta testing stage. We've been very busy on this release. Here's the list of main changes:

The really cool thing about this release is definitely MIDI scripting. MIDI scripting allows you to write your own complex behaviours for your MIDI controller. If you know JavaScript, then you can already easily write MIDI script. Instead of mapping buttons and knobs on your controller directly to buttons and knobs in Mixxx you can write script that reacts to your MIDI controller. This really shines on controllers like the new Stanton SCS.3d and SCS.3m, which are basically gigantic touch-surfaces with tons of LEDs on them.
We didn't have to change a single line of Mixxx's code to support all the 3d and 3m features, we just wrote MIDI script. Check out these YouTube videos to see it in action:
Last time I brought this up, you guys had some good requests and suggestions. We have a larger team now (~6 instead of ~3) so we're hoping to get Mixxx 1.8.0 out in 6 months instead of in a year. I'd really appreciate it if you'd fill out this user survey to let us know what features you would like to see. We rely on this feedback to decide on what features to implement, so please let us know!
