from what I saw of someone doing this course, the text material was ripped straight out of the reason help guide and the qualty of the education was no better than learning the shit yourself through asking questions on forums, and practice.

Buy some gear and do some online research. Teach yourself, don't expect much from the course.

Having said that I ddn't do it myself so my opinion can be easily discounted.

i have been there before with a mate, this was a while back

not sure on the course, but when i went they had giant f off mixers.

Im sure they could teach you some good solid info on the physics behind music and get you on the ground at least... but i would give it a crack myself

if you have the cash, and feel this would give you incentive then go for it

some people (like me) need a kick in the bum, or actual schooling to get anything done, hence why i try to stay away from distance education

who knows... if you do this you might be the next tiestorz !

i think it depends what you want to do... if you're just a digital producer, makind edm or whatever i personally think it would be a bit of a waste of money... it's easier to just spend the time, money and effort on figuring shit out yourself: the internet is a vast resource... when it comes to production i have found personally that fucking around is equally or more important than anything i've learned off forums etc too...

if you're looking into actual recording, or mixing on a proper desk etc it might be worth it... i don't know too much about proper production so ya, can't say..

if you have the cash i'm sure it'll help you a bit, but i would suggest investing the cash and time in your own research... it's not that difficult, and is way more rewarding

i havn't done the course either, but i think the misconception about these courses is that you'll come out the other end of it as a pro.. that shit just takes time, spend it on good gear, and studying what you're actually interested in rather than what they think you need to know...

i haven't bothered reading what everyone said but i've had two mates who went into it and bailed out shortly after..

..not to say it's not awesome, maybe it just wasn't for them, but i get the feeling it would be like my course i did in broadcast journalism in 2002 - one or two things i learnt i've kept and still use to this day, 98% of the rest of it was a waste of time and thousands of dollars..

I did the electronic music production course.

I would say it was worth the money.

I had been producing for about 2-3 years amatuerly and i think it took my music to the next level. Half the stuff in the course i already knew but i think seeing first hand how compression, mixing works along with synths is fantastic. I also made the move to Logic as that was the main DAW the teacher used. I have heard some bad things about the course but apparantly the teacher we had in Sydney was really kick ass and thats probably why i got alot out of it.

He mixes alot of music commercially as well and took us to his studio which was cool and offered after the course for us to come down and watch him mix down a track.

And theres also the meeting people with similar interests part of it as well, made a few friends who are into making music too which was a bonus.

Plus you probably have alot of questions you want to ask which sometimes can not be answered on forums. I know the people i hung out with in the course all found it very good and worth the money.

I dont think it will make you a kick ass producer by the end of the course but i think it will give you a good base of knowledge that learning more stuff after the course becomes alot easier. But i do agree that there is nothing in the course that cant be found on the internet if you know what you want to learn and where to look.

re

i did audio engineering there (back when it didnt cost 22000) and that was the best thing i did with my life, i sat in on afew of the lectures for e.m.p, my advice, would 5000 (or however much it cost) equipment or some time in good studio's and some extra mates with the same interests benefit you more?

Cheers

did I? Must have missed it.

personally I think there is far more value in teaching yourself - based on observations i made of a mate's course material.
