Yeah i agree. I seriously think trance is the new breed of classical music.

I agree with those points though there are definate elements of classical styling in trance music. - not just the strings - but the composition.

And I don't think trance is extremely similar to classical. I mean, when you compare it to many other types of current music trance is one of the most complicated, but there really isn't much harmony going on in trance songs... you got your lead for your melody and a pad sound for the harmony... that's pretty much it. If you can hear one of mozart's pieces in your head and compare, there's a lot more harmony going on. You just can't do that with trance. More ambient-type stuff maybe... but the kind of trance you'd hear at a rave or in a club isn't really comparable to classical.

There's always IDM which may be more similar, but I haven't heard very much of it so I can't give my opinion on that.

Right on Michael Russo,I love contemporary Classical music mostly Movie
scores, Hans Zimmer is unbelievable. As some one that Producers Trance and Classical I think Trance is way off the complexity , structure, harmonys and melodies compaird to Classical.
Now lest face it producing Trance all most anyone can have a go, but scoring Classical music with 100 pice Orchestra with complex progressions of notes moving up and the same time moving down and adding harmonys through the middle, I'm still yet to see some Trance Producer come close

Right, as a classical musician (I'm trained in Piano and Violin and play in a Symphony Orchestra) I'll add my 2 pence!

I can see why Myndless_one compares Goa/Psy trance with Baroque, cos its sorta experimental stuff. Baroque music was the early stages of what could be defined classical music, altho of course it isn't, its baroque Composers were experimenting with new sounds and styling. The Clarinet had just been invented and composers were getting to grips with it.

Out of most, if not all modern dance music genre's Trance is the only one which comes closest to classical. With all its layers of sound, melodies and all that. A comparison can be drawn between the two genre's of music, but thats not to sya they are entirely similar.

As for Progressive being Romance, I feel I have to say NO! Music of the romantic era may have seemed to be suprresed, but it was still emotional, and did indeed, build up to something more. Progressive doesn't do that, so I'd say it was more like "modern classical", i.e. Shite!
