DM018: Surrealism - Tisco EP [Discoteca]

For release number 18, we're proud to present the debut EP from Bulgarians Surrealism. Comprised of Nick Nikolov and Kalin Todorov, they comprise the classic DJ/producer combination. Nick came to many's attention after his collaboration with 16 Bit Lolitas, 'Skypiea', which found itself in the boxes of most major DJs. Already earmarked as one to watch, his sound possesses a maturity which defies his years. Kalin is a well respected DJ, also hailing from Sofia, who has played at most major clubs in his country, and across Eastern Europe. Their music is house with more than a nod to days gone by; with undertones of funk running through it, alongside obvious influence drawing from disco.

The title track of the EP, Tisco, is a warm, summery houser that fits firmly within this ethos. There is a prominent disco influence that's there for all to see that has sat well with the likes of Desyn Masiello.

Next up is Horny Chords. It's in a similar vein, although with a slightly jazzier, earlier set feel to it.

Of all the tracks on show, Funk Fool is the one geared most towards the dancefloor. Dripping with intensity, It's a heads down banger that builds toward a pad laden break and male vocal sample.

To make up the package we have Gotta Think. It's a more stripped down, moodier affair than the rest of the EP; with strings subtly sitting over a purposeful groove.

If their first outing is anything to go by, expect to hear a lot more from this talented duo soon.
