as a guy that knows french food pretty well, can cook it well, i would not attempt to cook for 30 without assistance, a proper kitchen, and a huge budget.
you might want to do a peasant style food (see stew or slow cooking easier to do meal) for that amount.
you could make coq au vin, which is classic french peasant food and easy to prepare for large numbers...but it will not be cheap for 30, and if you are cooking for class you might not be old enough to buy the wine you need.
what are you cooking with/where?
what is your budget?
do you have any help?
as an aspiring chef one of the first things you need to learn is your limitations and how to deal with them to still come up with a satisfying dish.
