Love lcrqq - Embrace the Past [uplifting trance - soundcloud]

Alright, here's the story behind this track,
I made this when I first got logic, around 2 years ago..
I've been updating the sounds in it and mixing it here and there since then, but it's pretty much stale to my ears so I need someone to tell me if I should continue working on it or stop beating a dead horse. For the life of me I cannot get the mix to translate well, every time I think I have a good mix going on my headphones/monitors, I take it to my car and I'm disappointed. Anyways, thanks for listening and let me know what you think.

Thanks,
-Nick

Wow after two years it would definitely start to lose some of its initial lustre -- i get sick of my own tunes after only a few months of working on them!

As a first time listener though I can assure you DO NOT give up on this one! Its got a really warm feel to it, beautiful haunting melodies in the buildup and breakdown, reminded me of something that would tear the place apart during an Aly & Fila set. I personally don't like the rolling snares you use a fair bit, they sound a bit hollow and cliche. The clap as well could be modified a bit, I think it would make a big difference if you used a more modern and longer clap sample here. absolutely love the trippy electric guitar-like pad in the buildup, sounds epic -- a heavier kick and more drive in the bassline might add to this even more but I'm sure this will come once you revisit the levelling and EQ'ing.

This is a really great framework for a solid track, i'd actually love to remix this as its the sort of melody I don't think i'd normally come up with. Definitely take a break from it to freshen up your ears, but after that continue hammering!

Awesome man, it's nice to hear someones opinion with fresh ears. I did not even notice how lack-luster the clap was until you pointed it out. That's the first thing I am going to change when I get off work tonight. Hehe the electric guitar sounding pad is actually an Ebow on my Telecaster, two tracks -- one with normal notes and one with harmonics. I dig what it added to the track .

If you would like to remix, let me know.. I'll send you the track.

Cheers mate!

Mate , i got goosebumps at 1.51 , you are the first guy on here to do that to me! Dunno why it did , but it did!

And TBH , this is the sorta tune i dig!

Personally , during the break im dying to hear a plucky trancy arp , like the one at 4.34 but stronger.

Also the snare sounds a little hollow.

mmmm , you go a little to sash after the break , maybe that missing trance arp could solve this?

Still its a great melody and could be a real stormer once you go back over the basics like EQ etc...

Keep at it , good work , enjoyed it.

Thanks
For me, giving someone goosebumps is the best reward in making a good track so I am stoked to hear that.

I've been listening to this tune at different studios I work at to see how it's translating and I just realized how freaking bad the compression sounds in some parts . It's kind of silly that during the "break", the meters are still pegged hehe.. oh well.. I'll have to fix that when I bounce it again..

Thanks for the comments guys! I really appreciate them and it's breathing some new life into this tune. I am definitely taking in to account all of your suggestions!
