From Wikipedia.

A goniometer is often included in analog audio equipment to display the amount of stereo (that is, phase differences) in a dual-channel signal. It allows the sound technician to adjust for optimal stereo and determine the makeup of errors such as an inverted signal. Many goniometers also provide a VU or PPM meter as a secondary function. It is also called a 'jellyfish' in some countries.

Basically it is going to show you the stereo width of your track. As a general guideline, you want it to look like an upright football. Not too wide, but not too mono.

Yeah, I have one up along with my spectrum analyzer and waveform analyzer. I don't reference it too much, though. Never really had much problem with phase issues and stereo width.

Doesn't the multimeter in Logic have one at the bottom.

Correct me if I'm wrong but basically if the meter is too far to one side, the signal will to a large extent, disappear when mono'd?

When you say football - you mean american football right?

I think so. I dont use the Logic one, I have a PC version on my other computer that I use.

I have never seen it do that. The one I use has a little vertical meter in addition to the goniometer that shows phase inversion.

you want it to look like an american football upright before a kickoff.

not an american football laying on the ground after Jamarcus Russel dropped it, eating a box of oreo's.

Well, it is the Raiders. At least you guys have won a game. How'd you like to be a Titans fan right now? 13-3 last year, now starting 0-5 this year? OUCH!
