Ableton: can you make a complete track just using the arrangement view or not?!

Can you use Ableton Live and just use the arrangement view to make a complete track and only use the session view for the mixer panel or is it necessary to use those cells in the session view to make tracks?

Do you really need to work with those cells or could you make your entire track just using the arrangement view?!

then whats the point using ableton at all? the session view is what ableton is imo, and whats separates it from others, if ur not using it u might as well go with a diferent daw which is better in the arangement part of stuff, like reaper.

I haven't tried ableton yet but i like the clean interface and internal effects etc based on the youtube vids I have seen.. just wondering if you can do a complete track just using the arrangement view?

Or is that session view with its cells somehow essential to get all the sequencing features?

Anybody can say some more about this please?! Thanks alot!!

Well, there's not a whole lot left to say. In arrangement view, Live works like a linear sequencer/arranger. That's the only way I use it, BTW, but it's not my primary DAW. It's not as deep or full-featured as many of the more popular DAWs out there (e.g., Sonar, Cubase, Logic, etc.), but there's a lot to be said for its simplicity and for the numerous useful and nicely implemented features that Live does have.

I use Ableton as a slave within Logic - It doesn't get any better imo

U can use only the arrangement view if you'd like.

however i dont see why you would, learning how to use the session AND arrangement view interchangably is how to optimize getting your ideas out in ableton

think of session view as a sketch pad and arrangement view as the overall canvas.

You can definitely make a track using just the Arrangement View, that's what it's for. Session View is for Live Sessions, triggering clips on the fly etc, hence the name Session View. You can mix the two up but you don't have to.

Ableton is slaved into Logic via Rewire. Audio editing is much easier in Ableton though it's supposed to be better now Logic has Flex Time.

Pretty much this^

It all boils down to what you are most comfortable/effecient with. I prefer the workflow in Ableton. The session view is easier for me to try out different ideas.
