Cant detect my midi Keyboard in any of my DAWs :/

Havent had a keyboard for ages, so just bought a new M-Audio one. I plugged it in Windows Xp through USB and it detects it and install the drivers. but it can't be found in any of my DAWS, nor be detected by the use of the tutorials the daws gives me on this issue! Wtf! What could be reason?

EDIT: AV/C problem resolved. Simply went to the pc company's homepage and reinstalled the chipset. This also solved an issue I had with an external soundcard. Anyways my midi-keyboard is still not appearing in any of the DAWS im using, even though it does in my laptop. I downloaded the latest drivers for m-audio and installed. My OS says its ready for usage. And no other messages, error or whatever appears.

What else can I do to make it work inside my DAWs?

Its M-Audio Keystation 61 es, cheapo keyboard I know...

EDIT II: is switching to midi cable, and maybe route it through my external soundcard a good idea? i dont have a midi cable yet...

which DAW's are you talking about specifically - as im sure you will need to isolate the controller though each DAW so it recognizes it...

Reason, Ableton and Orion. I tried it in my laptop with Ableton and Orion, and it got detected at once, but it's my main computer which has the problems.

Which M-Audio keyboard is it? I had a similar problem on an older Radium model and the solution was to install the drivers first, then plug in the keyboard and then let XP detect and install the drivers itself. It did this 2-3 times before the keyboard was finally recognised.

It's also worth trying a different USB port. It's also worth noting that I once had a Novation Nocturn that wouldn't work at all unless it was plugged into a powered USB hub on my main PC depite working fine on my laptop.

I have that same problem and the damn lead they give you isn't exactly long enough.

Processing a highly structured and complex pattern of sensory input as a unified percept of "music" is probably one of the most elaborate features of the human brain.....understanding how music is perceived and how it may elicit intense sensations is far from being understood.

Well I've owned two Novation controllers (the Nocturn and an SL49) and they were both utterly unreliable and mostly non functioning.

hardware has always meant problems for me/this computer...It always cost me half a head of hair without even getting near a solution.

Mine was a bit glitchy at first but dude have you tried calling tech support?

They are awesome, they have every version of every daw and every vst etc on different machines so they can literally re-create the problem. The guy spend over an hour with me (at his phone expense) crashing his version of sx3 on the automapped tonic filter! Couldnt recommend the tech support enough.

Also never had a problem using it as a midi controller in ableton seems quite solid in there.

To be honest i've very little interest in chasing a fix for something that should just work (get me )

I got rid of them both and now use a basic Oxygen 49 which does more than I need and works from the start!
