xone:42

I've decided to up my mixer budget a little bit and I think I'm going to get the Allen & Heath xone:42. Any thoughts?

I was originally going to get the 32, but it looks like the 42 mitigates all of the little issues of the 32 (gain, eq kill, etc).

You can get it online for about $700 - which I think is a steal.

Well what are you looking for from your next purchase?

Have you got any other options lined up, have you played with the actual mixer in a shop to get a feel for it etc.

Will you need additional channels down the road?

All questions you have to ask yourself. I usually line up 3 mixers that suit my needs and try to play them off each other to see which one i'd prefer because of price, functionality, features (effects, eqs (wide band or narrow etc), upgradability (i made that word up), exchangeable parts?

Were you looking at any other mixers or are you found on the Xone in general.

I was close to getting thte 42, until i upped my budget to a 92.
I have to admit when i first got the 92 i was shocked at how loose the faders were. Disappointed nearly. But i've grown to like them now. The filters are savage as well and from what i can remember the 42 has them as well

I like the unit personally. I know a few others had a couple of gripes about it but they were only minor..

I play vinyl, but also have a small sound rig that I rent out. I thought three channels would be plenty, but I have a lot of friends that play Serrato and still some that play CDs. Three channels would just be awkward to have turntables, Serrato, and CDJs all hooked up at the same time.

I currently have a Numark Matrix3 (its about 5 years old or more) and I have been pretty happy with it. I have gotten used to killing the EQ completely (it actually has switches) and I really like having two headphone jacks.

I don't really rent my rig out enough to justify spending too much money, but the price is definitely right.

I have always wanted an Allen & Heath so that plays a big part. I have also never been a fan of the Pioneers. I don't like most effects, but the A&H filter is badass. I am pretty much sold, I just wanted to make sure I did my due diligence before dropping serious cash on something.

I have a 42 and I fucking love it. I have 2 techs, 2 cdjs and an EFX500 hooked up to it (plus sometimes FS) and it works brilliantly at the centre of all that. The sound is superb and the X:FX send and return works very well, theres only 1 filter but i have never found that to be a problem. The inbuilt soundcard is wicked, just plug it in and go, no installation required, it just fucking works.

The only gripe you may have with it is that the phono channels are 1 and 4 so just using turntable means you will always be on the outside, but thats not a major issue.

Ive had mine for almost 2 years now and even though the first one blew up (not a common fault, I have never heard of another one going, just got unlucky) I have no complaints about it at all. I couldnt recommend it enough

I'd go for a 42 if it weren't for the fact that it's 3-band and not 4-band.

Ergo, I plan on getting a 62.

I just got my ship notice! Can we fast forward to Friday now?

BTW, if you don't have a local shop to support (which I always recommend first) check out djdeals.com - they have great prices. I'm getting the XONE:42 for $679 before shipping. I think that is a steal.

All of their online reviews were very positive - I really hope that proves to be the case.

I know I have gotten my notice from UPS saying it has shipped. I'll post when it comes in to let everyone know if what is coming is what it is suppose to be.

If I were ordering something like that online I'd probably go through agiprodj.

I second that and here's why:

1) They're reputable...you should never hear a single bad thing about them.

2) EXTREMELY competitive price matching.

3) They are experienced DJ's so they always have the answers to your questions.

Not a fanboy or anything but I've been buying serious gear from them since 2006 and they hit the two most important details everytime: selection and service.
