Do you need everyone to tell you how to live in NYC?

Secondly, you're misguided if you think your new roommates are going to be your best friends. In fact, chances are that it'll turn into the opposite situation. I do know of people who make good friends with random roommates that they meet, but they aren't the majority.

Hey, why don’t you ask some of your 911 truther mates to move in with you? they sound like perfectly reasonable and fun people to have around.

In my experience I've preferred roommates and have maintained friendships with most people I've lived with. Avoid opposite sexes as this inherently causes drama. Living alone seems like something I'll do in twenty years when I hate not just the world, but what I'll have become.

My friend Alina from Moscow just moved to NYC last month for her year abroad.

I have not yet decided whether I think you are psycho, so I will wait before giving you her contact information, should you be interested.

Re: new to a city - live with roommates or on your own?

rommates so you can save money, plus who wants to live in one big room? i don't like studios, having a roommate is part of the nyc experience. also there is a small chance you can make friends but don't count on it. i've lived for extended amounts of time with three people, two strangers before they moved in. the first i know nothing about even after living with her for 18 months and the other is a little crazy but i like her. imo this is a hard city to move to if you are completely alone because people tend to just stick with their friends and it could get lonely. i was lucky enough to go to school with people in a similar situation but if coming here to work not sure how that transition is. i wish you luck!

To his defense, Trump didn't even really look like a bum.

I'm just saying that if he's got the money to afford a studio, living in one for the first year would be preferable, imo. I'd rather make a few friends and pick one to live with after a few months of getting to know them rather than meet a few people on Craigslist and pick the best based on a first impression.

I know...one roommate I had was not good and he seemed fairly normal on the first impression.

Room mates are awesome! Especially when the 'cool chilled out Irish guy who plays guitar and stuff' suddenly snaps for (apparently) no reason, and throws your TV out into the yard while screaming obscenities at the top of his voice. Then, later, you find out that he's actually a heroin junky, that goes to public parks late at night and lets other men fuck him up the arse so he can afford his habit.

10/10 household, would definitely live there again

this is soley a personality test of your own. what works for people in this kind of situation may not work for you.

everyone in the cor could say "GET A ROOMMATE!" and you do it ; and you get some total douchebag who makes your life miserable.

do you like social company? get a roommate.
do you like being in your own place? then don't get a roommate.

rather than posing the question, you should make a decision; then tell us the end result.

makes sense although in some ways glad i had someone to live with when i moved here even though we were never friends. i basically lived alone and she helped me a bit at the beginning. i just think it could be lonely plus if you sublet a place you can get a better idea about apartments. my first apartment was a good $250 a month too expensive, i wish i moved in with the intent of moving out 3 months later.
