I thought now would be as good a time as ever, to ask a few questions to mainstay & popular figures in our scene, see what their angle is & what makes them tick.
Hard trance favourite DJ Choose, from Denmark:
Where did it all start for you?
It started back in the late 80´s for me when I first began to listen to electronic music.
Where did the name come from?
In all honesty, I really don´t rememeber haha
What gave you the initial push?
The music itself really
Who would you say was putting on the best events at the moment?
So many to choose from really
Which other countries have you played?
I have played more or less all over the world. But I play mostly in Europe.
What was the first event you ever played?
I think that was in a hardcore club in Copenhagen. Really good atmosphere and lots of crazy people
What’s the best event you’ve ever played?
That has got to be some of the Drop Bass Network events, Xstatic in Denmark, Club Gorgeous and In Qontrol in Holland.
What was your first record you bought?
Haha I think that was a Pet Shop Boys 12 inch.
Out of all the tunes you have, which one does the business every time?
Uh it depends on the event really. But the Drop Bass tunes I released never fail.
What's your favourite tune of all time, the ultimate classic?
Probably the 6 tracker e.p. by 303 Nation on PCP´s Dance Ecsctacy label.
And when all the partying is over, how do you like to relax?
With some nice food and a good movie . . .or a football match
How is the scene in your eyes at the moment?
Getting better, but you still cannot compare it to the “good old days”. But I really hope things will get back to the way it was, so the younger generation can experience what we did. I wouldn´t have missed it for the world.
How big is your vinyl collection? What is your opinion on CDJ's? (the pros & cons)
My vinyl collection is scary big. But I could lever live without the vinyls. I miss the days when djs played vinyls. But having said that, I only play cd´s now. Its just so much more easy and all the promo´s you receive these days are Wav files and MP3 files.
The funniest thing that ever happened at an event?
A guy asked me to turn down the music because his friend had lost a shoe
Other DJs you rate?
Too many to mention really. So many are doing a good job.
Who is/are your biggest musical influences in the world of music & why?
PCP, 303 Nation, Richie Hawtin, Woody McBride, Martin Damm (Speedfreak, Biochip C etc)
What are your feelings on the MC's?
They help create a party . . if they are any good. But these days, there too many poor mc´s and the tend to ruin the sets.
What do you do outside of the dance music scene?
I produce all sorts of electronic music for other people. Apart from that I relax with lots of football and good movies
What advice would you give to up and coming DJs/Mc's/Promoters?
Stay the course, believe in yourself and don´t let anyone tell you that you cannot make it. And if possible, see if you can find your own style and sound. That goes for both dj´ing and producing.
If you could stage an event anywhere, where would you choose?
In the UK or in Ibiza . . but when I say Ibiza, its because its 90% UK people . . . but the weather is better haha. I love that island.
How do you see the scene 5 years from now?
Damn good question. I really have no idea. I hope something different happens. But I have no idea what that would be ?
If you had a time machine what year would you go back to and why?
Back to the 80´s . . loved that time and that was where it all began with the electronic music.
