Wighnomy Brothers Splitting Up
Crazy Duo Wighnomy Brothers Splitting Up

Wighnomy Brothers Split
(Jena, DE) - After 17 years of profound collaboration, this unusual duo will stop spinning records together. They've mentioned a breakup before, but this time it's the true deal. Gabor Schablitzki (Robag Wruhme) and Sören Bodner (Monkey Maffia) are officially ending their Wighnomy Brothers era at the very last day of this year. They announced so on their website.
"Hi folks,
After 17 years we are now announcing the retirement of the Wighnomy Brothers DJ project. We will continue to play until 31/12/2009. From then on Sören (Monkey Maffia) and Gabor (Robag Wruhme) will still be there for you - but separately. We would like to thank all of you who kept faith with us in front, besides and behind the turntables. Thank you for the never to be forgotten memories on all dance-floors across the world! Good bye and take care!
WB"
Yes, we're a little sad that this strange couple, with their globally known sets and mixes, are quiting their teamwork. But then again; what can we expect from Sören and Gabor when they put their own style into it.
And for the few among us who haven't heard from these two, here's a short summary! Gabor Schablitzki and Sören Bodnergot got to know each other in 1989, apparently while break dancing, but they didn't name themselves Wighnomy Brothers until 1997. Only a year later they founded their record label Freude Am Tanzen with the motto “Stehter Tropfen höhlt den Stein” ('steady drops will drill a hole in stone'). In 2002 they added a sub-label Musik Krause, both of which are distributed by the Cologne based Kompakt stable. The Wighnomy Brothers' music is self-described as “raving with reason”: sometimes cheerful and sometimes dark, together or solo the pair make minimal techno that punts straight for the dance-floor. Monkey Maffia is also the owner of Fatplastics, a record store in Jena.
