Sorry dude, I didn't enjoy this mix much. In particular I really hated the Neelix track - the vocal, melody, percussion - everything.
I also felt that the flow was all over the place. At the 11 minute mark you had something close to full-on psy trance playing, then at the 13 minute mark it was essentially tech-house. This was corrected in the middle but then I felt it was up and down again at the end - the track around the 60 minute mark seemed really displaced.
However, I did enjoy some of the individual tracks in this set and the mixing wasn't too bad. I very much enjoyed the Nasa track and I think it sounds perfect to complete a set I've been trying to put together for about 6 months now. Thanks for that!
Overall not too badder effort, but I think you can do a lot better. |
Ah well, I thought based on a comment you made in one of your posts that you like "bangin progressive" sound that you'd like this.
I'm not sure I agree with your comment about the flow being all over the place...if you think that Ovnimoon track is close to full-on, then I can't understand why you don't see the rest of the set that way. IMO the style and energy level is fairly consistent throughout the set.
I wasn't too keen on that Neelix track either when I first heard it, but it had that "2 Unlimited - Get Ready for This" effect happening, in that I couldn't get it out of my head. I'd heard it several hundred times after listening to it only once, and it made its way into the mix. I actually like the track, you don't which is fair enough.
Electra is the one track that does seem out of place (slightly IMO). It had the tone/attitude/warmth/feeling etc. that I wanted in that place. I was going to end the set with this track, maybe I should have just kept it out judging from your comment...?
That Nasa track is a nice one. I find it to be the "trippiest" track in the set, which is even more glorious if you happen to be intoxicated! IMO, this would make a great transition track from progressive to psychedelic.
I rarely post up any sets and those that I do, I've barely seen any critical comments (or praise really) or help with what makes a good set. I listen to stuff to find things that I like and try to emulate those things I like in my sets...
One person told me that a goa set I'd done 6 or 7 years ago all sounded the same...and he'd like some musical variety. One other set I'd done, someone commented about a slight style-shift in the same genre in the mix, and that it sounded out of place. So judging from the 2 bits of feedback I got on those mixes plus what you've written, I can decree that some people want all tracks in a set to sound "the same" or have a straight-line progression, and some people want a "variety". As I said, since I rarely post sets, and rarely get feedback/criticisms, I'd probably have a difficult time doing "a lot better". This mix, and PSYde effects I made for me, whereas most of my previous mixes I'd done for other people, or in honor of other people such as my tribute mix to Sara.
Anyhow, thanks for checking it and for posting your thoughts. At least you found a track or two you like.
Cheers,
THC
