Dragon Age: Origins
Really, really smooth game so far. Seems right in between NWN2 and Diablo 2 so far as character depth/party tactics goes, and the UI/animations are about as smooth as World of Warcraft's (that's a good thing).
The story is sort of run-of-the-mill thusfar, but a lot of the dialogue/"moral" choices are really interesting. The writing is every bit as great as KOTOR's if you ask me.
The whole origins thing is interesting though - each class/race combination seems to have a different background story and likely plot development, though I am sure there are common story elements all throughout the game (there has to be!). Means I am tempted to play the game through as each class/race combination just to get all their stories. And then there's the fact that you can be good, evil, or indifferent - and this has its plot consequences at every turn it seems. I like it.
Bottom line is I think it's obvious Bioware put a lot of work into this - the extent of the lore and writing I have seen so far is every bit as elaborate as D&D's, if not the obvious derivative of it. But what isn't anymore?
I paid $65 for the CE and after just a few hours of playing it yesterday I feel like I've gotten my money's worth. In short, if you liked the game design for the KOTOR games and are a fan of bloody/dark fantasy swords and wizards bullshit, you'll probably like this one a lot.
