How do you guys transition between tracks with a really crappy bassline to something that's really smooth precise?

What I mean since that might not be very clear very clear is this.

Sometimes you get a track with a very dirty beat, sounding almost like

BBoomgh BBoomgh BBoomgh

When you do a transition with a track with a very clean beat:

Boom Boom

It sometimes sounds like the beats are drifting, even though they are not. If you are beatmatched perfectly you get:

BBoomgh BBoomgh BBoomgh

But it's usually more like this :

BBBoommgh BBBoommgh BBBoommgh

And if you shift just a little (And I mean almost nothing) you get

BBoBoomgmh BBoBoomgmh BBoBoomgmh

I will see if I can upload a sample if this is unclear.

It seems to me that eqing should fix this problem, but it doesn't really. Depending on what the tracks are.

I found that using the color effect filter on a djm makes it much better if a, but if there are violins or vocals in the transition part the filter makes it high parts dull.

On a loud soundsystem it's no problem, but on ipod or radio it sounds ungood.

EQ usually does it for me - How are you EQing the tracks? A sample would be helpful

I shall try to get a sample posted asap.

I have the bass 0 on incoming track with the high at about 9clock

Outgoing is the dirty bass, Bass 12clock

Outgoing Is O incoming is I

1THen I Bring Ihigh to 12 and Ohigh little down but only slightly.
2THen I slowly bring Ilow to 9 and Olow to about 11
3Then I bring Ilow up on beat while at same time Olow to 8
Fade out Olow slowly

If I take Olow out completely at 3 it sounds crap, since the Ibass is too clean. (Keep the grime there for a bit.)

I also fiddle with the mids, I find lots of the dirty sound also in the mids.

I try to not have tracks with crappy basslines in them.

But srsly, learn to use your e.q.s - play around with them until you're able to make smooth transitions regardless of disparate elements in the tracks you're mixing.

Practice, practice, practice.

Honestly..

I change my track positions around. If a song with a dirty bass line doesn't go well with a smooth bass line, I'll put a different song in there. Something that doesn't have bass at the beginning of it maybe. So the dirty bass line ends (fades out) then there's a nice medium length pause with some airy fairy stuff or just a chance for the crowd to take a breather and then I introduce the next song.

sometimes the easiest solution is always the best, just don't mix them together then

if it's not going to work, don't force it, try something that will flow better
