BIZ MARKIE BIO:

Biz Markie is a hip-hop legend. He has been making hip-hop history for more than 15 years. Known worldwide from New York City to Japan for such catchy songs as “Just a Friend”, “The Vapors” and “Make the Music (with your mouth),” Biz Markie is one of the most celebrated entertainers in the industry.

Born Marcel Hall in Harlem USA, Biz Markie stepped onto the scene in 1985, at age fourteen, as the beat box backup for Roxanne Shanté of the “Juice Crew.” He then adopted his alias–“Biz” a name his mother used to call him because he was such a busybody and “Markie,” short for Marcel, was his neighborhood nickname. Today, Biz Markie’s unique style is easily recognizable and well received.

In 1988, Biz Markie signed his first record deal with Prism/Cold Chillin’ Records and subsequently with Cold Chillin’/Warner Bros. During his 5-year upward success with Warner Brothers Records, Biz made hip-hop history that made a lasting impact on the music industry. He was the first rap artist to be sued for sample clearance. As a result, the album, “I Need A Hair Cut” was removed from the shelves and the “Biz Markie Sample Law” was instituted. “I’ve been through it all but I’m going to keep it movin’ until I can’t do it anymore.” Biz Markie demonstrated his resilience when he started BizMont Entertainment a production company with manager and longtime friend Monte Wanzer.

With one of the largest number of collective works, Biz has over 30,000
45-records and over 50,000 12” inch albums. “Because of his longevity in this business, Biz has an enormous collection of music. He can spin for crowds of all colors, ages and backgrounds and will leave them in awe every time,” says Wanzer.

The Spin Master has performed for such celebrity meg-events as The Grammy After Parties, The Pre-Oscar Party, The Essence Festival, The Magic Johnson Foundation Parties, Soul Train Music Awards, Sinbad’s Soul Fest, and a recent performance for Diana Ross’ private birthday party. “That will be one of my most memorable performances ever, there were so many legendary entertainers in the house, and I was the controller of the celebration. It was a birthday celebration for Ms. Ross, but a celebration of incalculable things for me,” says Biz. His musical M.C. roster also includes parties for Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, Puffy, Andre Harrell, Jermaine Dupri, Shaquille O’Neal, and Kobe Bryant to name a few.

VH1 recently featured Biz Markie on Where are They Now? The answer: “He is everywhere! Anywhere you look and at every major event. People just love him and they can’t get enough of him.” After performing over 250 shows and parties last year, Biz Markie is one of the most sought after entertainers in the business. Biz Markie has recently signed a deal with London-based Company Groove Attack to release his highly anticipated new album that will be out in 2002. With his legendary “Old School” status, the forthcoming album, and a growing global fan-base, the future is his. Nobody beats the Biz!

SCOOTZ BIO:

Born Reginald Williams Springer, in Toronto, Ontario, but later just named Scooter since he a tendency to moved around a lot as a child, which leads to his name now Scootz. Fast forwarding to his early elementary years with his huge curly afro, his American pie t-shirt, and shorts he made himself, known as the “funny guy” being because he always had some sort of improv jokes or just knew how to shut the teachers up for his age. Imagine a 9 year old kid being able to crack dirty jokes to his teacher.

Being funny wasn’t even the peak of it, to top it off growing up with his mother, influenced him on wide variety of R&B music. “My mom would play everything from Luther Vandross, Brian Mc Knight , to Michael, but not really too much rap the odd LL Cool J or Heavy D.” His passion for music was always strong, but not until a rap tour known as the “Up in Smoke Tour” came out. “I remember after that movie came out , and seeing all my favorite rappers at the time I knew I wanted to do this…so I started freestyling, started trying to write songs, me and Banz would battle each other than go outside and play ball to the “Marshall Mathers LP” than go back and start rapping.
As the years went by Scootz & his long time friend Banz had put out a couple mixtapes that they recorded in Banz’s closet; printed them and sold them with no problem every time but didn’t always keep up with it due to many issues. Scootz & Banz had found themselves with the skill to rap and a natural born skill to hustle from when they were kids so the issue of selling CD’s was never actually an issue. So what was holding them back? “The cycle of life, when it’s our destiny it will happen and to keep it real we had Legal Issue” says Banz.

“I’m going in, I’m coming out, I’m going in, it’s like I’m having intercourse with the f*ckin’ bin [Jail].” While Incarcerated Scootz unsure of when his release would be, kept that same mentality and came out 9 and half months after, with not only lyrics in his head but with that same passion he had for music was stronger than ever. Banz still in legal issues the two began hustling, in a legal company Banz had come up, which involved very strong sales skills. Banz at that point decided as he would say “figured my role” and decided someone needs to be the business of this team and the other person had to be the act, and that’s when TowerCity was formed. “I honestly deep down inside knew Scootz just was on another level, his rapping skills were just so natural from being able to have the song memorized as soon as he finishes writing it, to the punchlines and just everthing, it was a genuine thing for him.”

So surely Scootz & Banz went on to forming “Towercity Music” which put Scootz as the first headline artist and Banz doing the management and looking to expand.

”Im representing truth , while your going through a faze”, which indeed is true about a lot of rappers and people. A simple faze can make you feel that you’re the most amazing rapper overnight, but Scootz indeed did represent truth and has released his 3rd mixtape entitled “Respect T.O. The Underground” and he intends to keep real hip hop alive and put Toronto on the map for what it is. “The boy, the kid bring the city back/ but illie facts it was never real on the map.”
