Review: New Years Day @ The Comfort Zone (01/01/2010)
Arrived at 6am and it was already very busy and hot. MO was just starting with some good warmup tunes. His set was really up and down for me. He's definitely played better at zone before. When La Mezcla came on I said fuck it and left the dancefloor
Joe Manzone 9am-11am - holy FUCK! He DESTROYED us! Absolutely BRILLIANT set. Thank you for playing so much tribal. The tribal remix of "hey hey" was epic. I implore you to go back to your weekly residency at CZ.
Carlo came on at 11 and owned the dance floor like he always does. Though I've heard better sets from him he still fuckin' rocked it - let's be honest.
Junkies continued to rock the house after Carlo. The vibe was simply amazing. Val dominated us with lots of tech and vince finished us off with more tribal. Incredible set! Keep it up, boys!
Delete played a good set but I had a hard time getting into it after being dominated by our favourite locals.
Went upstairs for a little while to see Ovi M rocking it out hard. This guy needs a weekly set at CZ.
Santana was also decent but it felt like he didn't know how to play zone. His set never really got up to the energy it should have. I appreciated his set for being different but I needed something harder at this point of the day.
During all of this Jon Jon was KILLING it upstairs! Everyone in silver dollar was fucking loving it! Bonus points for playing "Whole Life". Everyone was going mental!
Back downstairs, Greg Gow played a really good set. Some tracks made me lose it, lol. La Palma! West World! I tried to stick around for Deko-ze but I needed at least some rest before Lawler.
All in all an excellent NYD at Zone. It wasn't as busy as I thought it would be but that's definitely a good thing. It was really hot downstairs but not unbearable like previous new years. The vibe spot on all day.
My only complaint - the set times were only posted in one location - at cover charge. WTF was that all about? Halfway through the day someone stole them!! Thanks to geoff and his iphone for set times after that!

kotsy u're right about following up joe, carlo and the junkies... delete and richie didn't stand a chance !! their sets weren't bad but they lacked that extra something you need when you spin at zone.. d'ah well...
i agree with most of what you said... and i'm pissed that i missed ovi's set i told him i'd catch it for sure, but i guess i was havin a lil too much fun downstairs at that point and it slipped my mind... when i finally remembered, i ran upstairs and iron mike was already on lol..
my biggest surprise of the night was Chris Ink.. he was one of the last dj's i saw spin.. it was my first time seeing him and he was demolishing a packed upstairs. kudos to him and the rest of the dj's on nyd, who once again left me wanting to make a u-turn and go back to party while i was on my way home lol...
p.s. nice meetin u kotsy, as well as intangible, and geoffb

What a day! I'm gonna go ahead and pretty much agree with most of Kotsy's review. I missed almost all of Richie and Delete, which seems kinda stupid, but I was having fun upstairs at the time
did 14 hours there, longest I've spent at one club to date lol. So much fun!!
