Claude Vonstroke done a "in the studio" video for Future music. He uses reason and said that a compressor resides within the interface. Although other programs also have this, reasons does crunch down on the sound.

That would explain why it changes the sound right off the bat before you have even done anything.

He goes on to say that although it does this it does it in a nice way (for him I guess)in that it actually compliments the sound and its better to push reason to make the sound hotter, even though that maybe goes against anything any engineer may say.

I've read many threads on its particular sound no real clear answer as to what was going on with reason. Its good to hear some kind of explanation. Anyone got any thoughts on this?

I guess. With all the talk over the years I would have thought someone would have done that already. I'm sure people haven talked about it on Propellerheads forum and contacted them also. BUt there has always been a mystery around it all so maybe ill be the 1st to e-mail.

Quiet day in work so i ended up watching all 5 of those Claude VonStroke videos, seems like a cool guy, nice to see his method of working etc

Dont know about the Reason "compressor" thing although i remember hearing something about the mixer, in that if you push the channels up the master output wont clip, so maybe theres some limiter type thing in there - i dunno that could be totally wrong too, you would think theres bound to be some info on this somewhere.....

Yep read all sorts about the mixer but its just hear say from forum to forum. That isnt even logical, the master wont clip? Its obvious it will otherwise whats the point in even having the audio out clip indicator.

yeah ive no idea, just something i heard ages ago, probably just hearsay like a lot of stuff

Some of these programs have "factsheets" detailing all the technical stuff, i think Ableton Live has one, if there is one for Reason there might be some more info about the mixer in there - cant believe that nobody at the propellerheads forum wouldnt know?
