Yeah I've held this theory for awhile myself, dubstep is very inherently English music, which is why it may be hard for American audiences to really get into. I'm not from the UK myself, but my proximity to the country and the amount of shared contemporary culture between us makes the dubstep sound seem very natural to my ears. |
If I was running Fabric long enough to ink one deal, and really wanted to push DubStep to a wider audience, I would have had Burial pull off a Fabric 36 [Villalobos]. Original material + remixes of the recent top tracks. It would pushed the Dubstep flag much farther, pulling in listeners that are into other forms of electronic music once again, who already have a deep liking towards Burial and his work. Quite a few people love Burial, yet they might not be regular listeners of Dubstep. But they would give a close listen to "Dubstep" in a mix context coming from Burial, and maybe would have jumped on board to the sound, or at least ignored it less.
