Low Country Selections, Volume II (mix of house, prog, electro, trance)

First mix in almost two years, picking up the "Low Country Selections" series again to start off 2010! (the area here in the southeast coastline is often referred to as the "Low Country", as it's just barely above sea level).

I spent a few days going through the entire back catalog of Beatport tracks the past couple months to score some of the more obscure tunes, or the lesser known "b-side cuts" as they were called in the days of vinyl. Mostly mixed with newer tracks, and some non-"Beatport top 25" cuts in this mix of house, progressive house, electro, a few top-40 remixes, and a touch of trance. WARNING: I had to throw some bones to the "crowd" with the top-40ish stuff (this is a demo I'm handing out around town), but I think those remixes were pretty solid and fit with the flow. You kind of have to do that in the 912 area code to survive as a house/prog DJ, incorporating some top-40ish stuff and/or some 80's house remixes.

Recorded January 27th live in the studio, first take (ie hit record on the two track and started mixing) unrehearsed, unedited (aside from some gentle compression to smooth out the levels a touch).

Mix can be found at Mixcloud.com.

1. Alex Dimou - Away
wicked deep dark prog house with a sexy vocal

2. Jay Sustain & Sean Bay - Feel The Vibe [Jay Sustain Remix]
funky deep dark prog. reminds me of the classic prog i was playing back in 2001/2002

3. Da'Others - Dirty Beat
wicked bass/synthline that drives this track!

4. Gwen Stefani - 4 In The Morning [Thin White Duke Mix]
i <3 Gwen, always have, always will. pretty damn good remix. needed some mainstreamish material in this mix for demo purposes, and I don't feel at all dirty for using this tune. ;-)

5. David Guetta & Laidback Luke - I Need You Now [Extended Club Version]
time for a changeup, throwing in some electro-ish feeling.

6. Chic Magique featuring Linda Lugnet - Chic Night
some more retro sounding big room vocal prog house i love.

7. Astrid Suryanto - Distant Bar [Gutterstylz Vox Mix]
every mix needs some Astrid, IMHO. damn sexy voice, nice funky bouncey feel.

8. Depeche Mode - Perfect [Roger Sanchez Extended Vocal Mix]
long time DM fan, first killer remixed tune from them I've heard in almost 4 years. holy peak hour tune!

9. Bob Sinclair vs Daddy's Groove - Kiss My Agony [Daddy's Groove Magic Island Mix]
starting to throw in some more trancey/melodic material with this tune. mmm... love the epic sounding vocal.

10. Ron Reeser & Dan Saenz featuring Myah - Everything [Extended Mix]
i dunno if this is considered mainstream or not, but I found it on a Promo Only Mainstream Club CD. I like it anyway. i like the vocal tone.

11. Rihanna featuring Jeezy - Hard [Jody den Broeder Club Mix]
facepalm. yeah, I did it. I'd still play it if it were an instrumental though.

12. Danny Merx featuring Majuri - Bring The Sunshine
i'm not sure how to describe why i like this track so much. srsly. it was a good transition track to the rest of the mix tho.

13. David Akermanis featuring Marcie - Hoping Tonight [Frankinelli Remix]
big room prog house

14. Morgan Page - Fight For You [Sultan & Ned Shepard Remix]
I don't recall the girls name who does the singing in most of his tunes (Lizzie?), but I'm a sucker for her voice.

15. Loetto & Front featuring Annet - Finding
god i LOVE this tune so much. her vocal reminds me a LOT of the singer of Suncreem. Its a nice dynamic track that builds up and down without losing interest or drive.

16. First State featuring Sarah Howells - Brave [Jonas Steur Remix]
meh. something to wind down the mix. I think i would have been better off leaving it out... oh well. [/QUOTE]
