first decent sounding trance i've written

i'm fairly new to trance production, n this is something i started last night.
would love some feedback from you guys
i'm currnetly trying to write some vocals for it (with mixed success) and there will be a better build-up in the track once it's done.

Hey man tjust listening to this now, this is really good - it has good progression so you are one step ahead of a lot of other budding producers!

What did you use to make it?

AU TA represent!

OK this is a great start especially since its only 24hr old! Kick and bassline need to cooperate a bit more, I would boost certain lower freq's in the kick (around 50-100Hz but whatever suits this kick best) and cut these same frequencies in the bassline. Bassline itself sounds a bit basic, it could be layered and EQ'd to give it more character but I'm sure you'll get to that. The acidline didn't really fit the mood for me, could well be a matter of taste but I'd make a totally new midbass, something a little more modern.

The pad that comes in at 1:26 is nice and atmospheric but the new pad at 1:54 is too stark and could do with some extra release or reverb so each note blends a little nicer into the next. Structure is spot on, you build some good tension by bringing the little plucks in first and building from there, that's what its all about. The main melody is a strong one, could easily be the sort of track you'd hear played out once you've processed things a bit more, keep at it!

cheers for the feedback guys

mantisdj: i used cubase and a bunch of vst's like z3ta, sylenth, gladiator & nexus.

novastorm: bro! perth crew represent!
i started playing around with the kick n bass a little more to tyr n get them to sit together better. i'm used to writing music with off-beat bass, so it's taking a little gettin used to. considering side-chaining, but i'd rather work around that so i'll give you eq advice a bash.

it's also actually the same pads all the way through the track, i've just eq'd out a lot of the higher freqs in parts so that it sits in behind where i plan on putting the vox. will tinker with the ADSR tho

i'm hoping to have some vocals to come in from 0:28 - 1:24, then again at 1:54 so that should help to fill in the empiness there. might change the breakdown a little to draw it out a pinch before the vox come in.

and i actually like that acid :P tho it might be worth looking into some mid-bass to make the track a little more audience friendly.

cheers guys, much appreciated

Yo
GOod stuff on the whole. Melody fine.or me the percussions need to change, they are a little sort of old school. Its no shame to use some vengeance loops or something like that. I was listning to a PVD mix today, and heard some familiar vengeacne sounds on more than one occasion. If the pros can, we can. The hat needs a more crispy dound, and mabe a 1/16th echo. Also the crashes sound a little like one from a real drum kit. It needs a more electronic dancey feel, and probably some echo when it crashes so it sort of fades out.

Also, i think the bassline needs to be more rolling,as opposed to stop start... if that makes sense. Also when you go into nw sounds, such as in the break.. I think yo need a uilup to it such as a upwards sweep, and a impact... something like a ick drum echoing.

I think we are opposites. I think im ok with basline and pecussionbut rubbish with the melodys and strings...that kind of thing. you nailed all the pads and string, but the bass and percs need some work...

cheers for the feedback dude
i'm yet to put in sweeps & fx/dynamics/eq on percussion, but i'm workong back towards that as i have the time. have have put in a fairly generic sort of a build-up in there, eq'd the kick n bass so they sit together better and added a little reverb & delay to it to make is feel like it has a little more texture to it.
i may try playing with the notes in the bass, adding some 5th's in there or something to try n add a little extra roll to it.

still yet to come up with any decent lyrics for it tho.

will post up another clip once it's closer to completion
