Playing Clubs with Your Own Setup

I apologize if there is already a thread on this, but I don't really know how to search for this subject, depending on how people define it.

My question is: do clubs let you play with your own setup? Or, do they push you into using theirs?

Logically, it seems they would allow you to plug your equipment into their mixers, and give you space for your gear, but some places will be less able to accommodate this than others.

I want to avoid a discussion on using industry-standard equipment, and not needing to bring your own setup anywhere. This is more of an inquiry as to whether using your own gear is feasible?

It's up to the clubs. Some of the places I play don't allow it. But then there are some that will.

If they don't allow it; pretty simple, don't play there.

Act like a pawn be treated like a pawn.

Anywhere I play, I pretty much have to use my own setup.

But, to be fair, I live in Ohio.

It really depends on the club and the promoters (in case they book more than one DJ). Bigger clubs usually have everything set up. Smaller venues usually don't. I never had a club tell me I couldn't use my own setup, even if they had one.

it's also a space issue. i work as a technician in a club and i regularly have to tell djs they can't bring a huge load of controllers and players simply because the dj booth can't hold them. we got a pair of technics up there, and can fit a pair of cdj-100/200/400 in too. but as soon as a dj requests a cdj-1000, i have to tell him: fine, but you'll lose the technics... doesn't fit.

and the worst part about it is: shifting equipment in and out during a dj switch. it's pain. i so wish we had more space up there...

nothing is more crap for a dj than a small booth.
its as nice as not giving a teacher a mic when lecturing for 500 students, everyone looses.

The one thing I would say they should be cautious of is of course your mixer.

If you are lucky enough to play at a club with a really high end system that's all nice and tuned, the last thing they should let you do is replace the mixer.
