It really depends on the specs of the needle. Generally, E styli are bought for sound while S styli are needed when tracking is a consideration (turntablism, etc).
If you're an audiophile, you should invest in audiophile components, but for the average DJ, loud with good tracking should be the main considerations, imho. For example, I have a set of the old yellow Ortofon Nightclubs (elliptical) and a set of the Ortofon DJ E. The Nightclubs sound great, but the Es track better and have considerably higher output - loud as fuck in comparison to the former. I had a set of Elektros (spherical) prior to that, which did indeed track quite nicely and were comparable in loudness to the DJ Es. Did I notice any major difference in the frequency spread with all three? Not really.
If you're playing music that requires a lot of aggressive cueing/turntablism or you're using well-worn vinyl from 10-20 years ago, then get an S needle. If you're more the kind who just drops each track in and then doesn't really touch the platter after that, then you'll probably prefer an E stylus.
