Arrow [Review] Eric Prydz at Nokia Theatre March 20th, 2010

Ok, well let's see. Eric Prydz made a beleiver out of me. First time seeing him live and better than I expected. I was kinda disappointed that there wasn't a bigger crowd out for it. Also the seating area was closed off by curtains. Any idea why?

Happy Birthday Ryan It was nice seeing you out Joey!

To his defense, Trump didn't even really look like a bum.

Euphoria,

I would guess because it didnt sell too many tickets if the crowd was as weak as you made out. WWE is famous for doing the same thing LOL.

I'm sure it had a lot to do with how stacked this weekend was in terms of NYC bookings...so much damn competition. Prydz usually draws big crowds in NYC.

i believe this was his 3rd time in NYC and i recall his 2nd gig in NYC didn't have a good showing either....

however, he would be a great addition to the EZ line-up

I remember the weekend of his 2nd gig here really well (although not fondly.) It was exactly like this past weekend with the amount of talent playing in a 3 day period. We did a party at Love that Saturday and got murdered.

Danny Howells -w- Stadenco--- Thursday 10/16/08--- Love (NYC)
Steve Angello & Sebastian Ingrosso --- Thursday 10/16/08--- Cielo (NYC)
Carl Cox -w- Tattoo Detectives--- Friday 10/17/08--- Webster Hall (NYC)
Eric Prydz --- Friday 10/17/08--- Pacha (NYC)
Hector Romero & Eric Andrew--- Friday 10/17/08--- Mansion (NYC)
Derrick Carter & Doc Martin --- Friday 10/17/08--- Studio B (Brooklyn)
John '00' Fleming -w- Zack Roth & Mike Saint-Jules & Stan Void--- Saturday 10/18/08--- Love (NYC)
Alex Pearce --- Saturday 10/18/08--- Webster Hall (NYC)
Victor Calderone & Adultnapper--- Saturday 10/18/08--- Pacha (NYC)
Trente Cantrelle --- Saturday 10/18/08--- Sullivan Room (NYC)

But yeah, he'd be great at EZ for sure.

I was also surprised that there wasn't a big crowd but that didn't really bother me. i didn't know there was a seating place in the back but I sure didn't mind because I was up dancing all night.

Alex Pearce set was pretty good for an opener. He played some nice tunes and tried to keep the energy going before Leger/Prydz came on. Leger's setlist was a lot of fun and he played lot of funky/progressive house which is not my cup of tea but sounded good. I honestly decided to rest up before Prydz so spent some of my time lounging at the bar.

Well what can i say about Eric Prydz? I am a big fan of his production/remixes. They always sound fresh, melodic, groovy, and it's very original. I must say that I am never disappointed with his releases. But I honestly had no idea his DJing was so good because I never saw him before nor heard a live set of his online. It was absolutely one of the best sets I have ever heard. He played lot of new material and crowd definitely went wild on many many occasions. One of my favorite tracks was the mashup of On/Off, remix of Faithless, and Bauerpost which sounded amazing at the venue. He played a little over 2 hours and there wasn't one track of his that I didn't like. I would die to get a recording of this show and listen to it on repeat!

I was also very impressed with Nokia Theatre. The sound system was fabulous and the lights were the best I have seen for a large venue. The place felt more like a big club rather then just a concert hall with the lounge rooms and the stools. The place was also was very clean and people seemed to having a great time as well. I will definitely go to upcoming shows there again.

I guess all the signs were there that the crowd was going to be small...I know Made started to offer 2 night ticket deals for ATB and Prydz, and after the ATB show, there were handing out flyers for $15 off Prydz admission. I'm guessing that they closed off the seating area so that the dance floor didn't look as empty.

nite was fun
didnt get to hear alex
but leger was pretty good and his last 30/45 min he picked it up and was playing nice
some tracks i remember him playing:
maskio-human jungle(santos re-edit)
plastikman-spastik (dubfire remix)

prydz came on and his first few tracks were banging
dark groovie basslines and nice energy, after that he kinda lost me for a bit but his last hour or so was great i was danceing like a mad man ha ha

i kinda had a feeling it wouldnt be that packed due to all the other dj's in the area that night, but by time prydz came on the room got pretty full
the crowd was sooooooo young, i guess its a sign that iam getting old lol

good seeing all the nyta's it was deff fun times

prydz was great despite the short 2-hour set, 2/3 of which were IDs. too bad the place was 1/2 full. between the other gigs that night and the nyc crowds not being onto prydz like they are to the rest of the shm, the turnout was weak.

caught the last 45 min of leger and he was on point too: leger's last two tunes leading into prydz were new edits of aztec mystic - jaguar and plastikman - spastik.

the venue is pretty cool and it seems like a nice midpoint between pacha/webster hall and the mega ballrooms. hopefully some more dance bookings will pop up there.

Really great night...

I agree with Andrew, the crowd was really young, but that didn't seem to really matter since there wasn't many people there, so there was plenty of room to dance by the booth.

I remember Prydz dropping his rmx of Blue Monday mashed up with Daft Punk's Harder Faster Stronger, really cool mashup. Also he played a bunch of tracks that he played on NYE @ O2 arena on the essential mix.

GOod to see some TA's there, always fun (and hilarious) chilling with you guys
