Jonathan Allyn returned on Pharmacy Music this February with his biggest release to date, a 4 track Trance EP.

Jonathan Allyn has been releasing tracks since 5 years now and his productions have been featured on labels such as Hook Recordings, AVA and Baroque Records. His melodic yet at the same time energetic style has attracted the attention of many Trance fans all around the world.

His first EP on Pharmacy Music in May 2009 was a real breakthrough and we hope that this 4 track EP can be a worthy follow up.

2. Fracture (Big Room Remix)

We have to admit we do not understand what is the sense of releasing two versions of the same track that you even struggle to distinguish one from the other. The difference between the two versions mainly concerns the melodic arrangement after the breakdown, the Big Room remix gets the slight edge here. The track itself is an honest melodic energetic trancer, nothing groundbreaking and that has not already been heard before, but has the right elements and the level of energy needed to please the crowd of a Trance night.

3. Ricochet (Original Mix)

We remain on similar pumping vibes with Ricochet that however uses a slightly more distinguished bassline. The track builds a nice dark atmosphere until the breakdown, but we have to admit that the melody introduced at 3.20 is on the cheesy side and we could have well done without it. A pity considering how well the track progressed till that moment. This is a track that could well be improved by a remix.

4. Taking Sides (Sean J Morris Remix)

We move to progressive territory with this remix delivered by Sean J Morris of the track Taking Sides. The Los Angeles native and regular of Pharmacy Music remixes here a track released in last year EP. The tempo is obviously considerably slowed down compared to the original. There are some good elements in this remix like the subtle use of the acid line, however we could have done without such a predictable and at some point even annoying main melodic line. The original remains the much better version.

Tracks to not miss in order of preference: 1/2.

Verdict: expectations were high given the level of the first release by Jonathan Allyn on Pharmacy, however this release feels like a missed opportunity. This doesn't mean it is a bad release, however we expected something more. Fracture is the most consistent and better built track, however we are not at the quality level of Taking Sides (Original Mix) and Overdrive, released last year by the same artist.
