I was wondering what kind of style of music is popular around the area you guys live. I live on the east coast (washington DC) so everytime i goto a rave around here, they mostly play hard house/breakbeats and alot of good drum and bass but my preference in music is epic/uplifting trance.. ukno avb,tiesto... ferry corsten..

now im hearing of 2 step garage gettin really popular in the UK and now its startin to make its way into the US. I know you guys are so lucky in holland and netherlands cuz you guyz get avb and etc... almost every week, i would be at a local rave and be SO HAPPY to hear 1 song that sounds a LIL bit trancey..

u guys know why the US doesnt get hit wit uplifting trance that hard? has it gone and faded away or just never really even started?

lets see.....i live in whitehouse, a podunk town just outside of tyler, tx, which is about 90 miles from dallas. theres not much of an electronic scene where i live. but in dallas, drum and bass seems to be pretty big, with an independant drum and bass label stationed there and all. also, house and top 40(!?) seem to be spun in various clubs there on a regular basis. occasionally, a big name dj like oakey or digweed will stop by, but other than that, the talent usually stays local. now austin, on the other hand, is growing tremendously, dance music wise. their electronic dance scene has been so-so for the past few years, but its really started to take off recently. all sorts of dj and live acts have come through there, including moby, digweed, d:fuse, john kelley, and orbital...to name a few [in short, lots of genres of music!!]. im really not sure about surrounding areas like houston and san antonio, im pretty limited to the first mentioned major cities when it comes to clubbin.

peace
Lexi

I live in Victoria, BC, Canada (on Vancouver Island off Canada's west coast) and the most common styles I hear at Vancouver Island raves are:

- Funky/Disco House (which I love dancing to!)
>> Speed Garage (relatively popular here compared to elsewhere)
- Progressive House/Trance
(I don't hear epic/uplifting/high energy trance as much as I'd like... there are a lot of "progressive" DJs in this area. I find a lot of "progressive" to be fairly boring.)
- Hard House & NU-nrg
- Breaks
- Jungle/Drum and Bass
- Techno (occasionally, but more rarely)

We also have the ocassional Goa/Psy Trance party which are always exclusively Goa/Psy Trance and Acid Techno/Trance. Nothing else! I'd like to hear some Goa/Psy Trance (or Psychedelic-type trance) thrown in at more parties where there's a variety of styles, so more people learn about it. Cuz a lot of people who have never really heard Goa/Psy Trance aren't willing to go to parties that are EXCLUSIVELY Goa/Psy Trance and nothing else.

There is basically NO Hardcore scene on the island... I know of two DJs who rarely spin Happy Hardcore. I've heard that Happy Hardcore is quite common and popular at raves in the Toronto area? is this true?

The mainstream club scene is still mainly top 40s (Pop, Hip Hop, Rock, etc.), but we have a few small clubs in town that play Electronic music.
Sometimes we have good clubnights with good Trance (lately Max Graham, Taylor, Dave Ralph...), House (lately DJ Dan, Roy Davis Jr, DJ Stan...) and Jungle/Drum&Bass (lately Dieselboy, Amon Tobin, Slip&Slide...).

Swedish Techno artists Cari Lekebusch and Joel Mull also just played a show here in Victoria, as well as Pascal FEOS a few weeks ago.

there are two amazing Psy/GOa Production Companies in Toronto, BLack Light Activists and Moonshadow Collective (both throw outdoor illegal parties, as well as the occational indoor things at clubs)

I unfortunately hail from Michigan where there is a decent electronica scene but not necessarily to my liking. Most raves here play techno, house, drum n bass and jungle. We also suffer from the Detroit minimalistic curse which gives everything an experimental sound. As for clubs, in my immediate area a few clubs have tried the electronica genre but most have failed miserably. They all played the above music; in fact, I've only actually heard trance once in my current town at a club. Detroit has some really nice clubs, but unfortunately, once again, no trance. The only bigger names to come through Michigan to my knowledge in the last couple years are Dave Ralph, Paul Oakenfold, DJ Micro, Carl Cox, and Kimball Collins. Quite sad really. There's a message board somewhere I saw once for Detroit ravers. All the hardcore/techno/house guys sit around all day and bash trancers. Whoop! At least I'm close to Canada.
