Headed to Spain myself in a little over a month. Through a lot of research, we've settled on Catalonia Las Cortes for its proximity to various sites when walking as well as easy metro access. Should be a blast.

Lived there for a few months last year and I know that if you stay anywhere around Sol, Gran Via, Plaza de Espana, Opera, or any other metro stops in that vicinity, you'll be fine.

Check out http://clubbingspain.com/eventos.ph...echa=1272232800 to find all the info you need on what DJs will be playing in Madrid while you're there.

If you were thinking about hitting up Fabrik, prepare for a fairly long ride outside of Madrid to get there.

Duom/Sala Heineken and Low Club at Plaza de Espana are pretty good clubs for good music. Kapital is huge but very commercial. El Barco is fun but the music is very different... I don't even know how to describe it. Don't go to Joy unless you want to see a bunch of American idiots getting totally wasted and dancing to commercial music. Plus the bouncers there are pieces of garbage.

By the way, prepare to go out late as the clubs don't get busy til' around 1-2am. Metro re-opens at 6AM so that's when the clubs close.

i know this is kind of a useless post, but in 2003 i stayed at a new and modern hotel right in the middle of the city for around $100-125 a nite.... would stay there again if going solo... trying to find the name of it as i might be in Spain this summer but haven't been able to find my trip notes from 03

if i find it soon i'll post it...

Paulcky, thanks for the info. I will be going with my GF on a 2 week tour of Spain. We have our first 4 days in Madrid. Any other tips/info you can pass along? We're not the hardcore clubbers we used to be anymore, though we will make a trip to Fabrik or its like at least one night. Any tips for some nice lounges with house music? How about some good jazz clubs? I predict she will be shopping by day, and we'll really try to find some music and dance by night, though my raving will be somewhat more limited than years past.

No problem.

Some tips... buy metro passes for 10 viajes at a time. It's cheaper and easier than buying one pass at a time. If you're there on a wednesday night, check out Montaditos. For 1 euro you get a small beer and a tapa of your choice... and there's literally over 100 tapas to choose from. There are many Montaditos all over the city so you shouldn't have trouble finding one.

I personally enjoyed going to Parque del Retiro on a nice day. It's huge and there are always tons of people there... the Prado museum (museo del prado) is right next to it as well.

For lounges, there are many, but to be honest, I don't really have one that I would particularly recommend. You also have to remember that smoking indoors is allowed there so everywhere you go, you will end up smelling like a chimney when you leave. I really did like that place called el Barco though. There are hardly any other people besides Spanish that go so if you like to do what the locals do, you can go there. They play a combination of jazzy-house/weird stuff. It was very cool and I think you'd like it if you like house and jazz. It has 2 floors and both get PACKED. It costs 8 euro to get in and you get a free drink with that...

For shopping, she can hit up the mall at Principe Pio or go to Gran Via or Tribunal (I think) to walk around outside and shop. La Latina is also pretty cool to check out.

You can walk the entire city if you want but since you have only 4 days there, I wouldn't recommend it.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.
