I want to record some scratching samples off my turntables to use as effects in reason. Do i need microphones? or a program on my computer to do so?

Yes you need to get a microphone and put it really near to the turntable's needle. Then do your scratches and run it into pro tools HD. Then you need to export that file to wavelab for mastering, master the file (by using a waves L3 limiter set to its maxium threshhold) and export that file as a 320 kbps mp3 to reason.

is this the only way? I dont want to get pro tools HD just for recording samples

Hook up your dj mixer to your audio interface pick a daw and hit record and start scratching.
Hit stop then export your loop as a wave file, then import to NN-XT or propellerhead's recycle and make .rex files for dr.rex.
If your going to use dr.rex, the key is make 4 bar loops.
