More Democrat party racism

Funny how these things still don't get reported in the main stream media. I continue to wonder... how full would the airwaves be if Rush or Sara Palin or ANYONE registered Republican said this:

Dan Rather yesterday on Hardball, discussing Obama:

quote:
Listen he's a nice person, he's very articulate.... but he couldn't sell watermelons if you gave him the state troopers to flag down the traffic.

@ the others at the roundtable discussion all starting to talk out loud to drown out Rather when they realized what he just said.

And from 2 weeks ago... liberal MSNBC regular Donny Deutsch calling Conservative Marco Rubio a "coconut" (tan on the outside, white on the inside):
quote:
You almost need that blank piece of paper. That's the new model. Like, you know, this coconut Rubio down in Florida.

Later he said, "I said coconut meaning simple, goofy, bananas...wasn't even aware it could be a racially charged word."

OK! lol

Democrat Congressman, and former Klu Klux Klan member Robert Byrd was unable to be reached for comment.

I see your point that if a Conservative made those comments, the media would be all over them. But I´m going to remain consistent and state that those were probably not the intended meaning of what was said, and give the speakers the benefit of the doubt, the same way I do when Conservatives make comments like those.

It´s too easy to offend people and break the laws of political correctness these days, and I think that ALL such cases should be left alone unless the racism is overt, blatant, and clearly intended.

The first comment could have been innocent.. The second, no way. That's like calling a black person an Oreo.

Yes, Dan Rather is a racist Democrat.

I thought it sounded like this was taken out of context. i.e. when I read the transcript, it looked like Rather was suggesting that his statement was something the GOP might say, but that they weren't necessarily his personal beliefs. I could be wrong, but that was how I read it. Then again, maybe it was a way to camouflage his thoughts as those of someone else.

quote:

Rather said the GOP would say, "Listen, he's a nice person, he's very articulate. This is what's going to be used against him. But, he [President Obama] couldn't sell watermelons if you gave him the state troopers to flag down the traffic."

In other words, I don't really know what to take from his comments, but saying "watermelons" certainly has racist undertones. So the question is, either Rather has some racist leanings or he is trying to say that Republicans are racist. Frankly, neither is a good position so probably a net negative for Rather.

???

That's the worst attempt at outing racisim I've ever seen.

I didn't catch the comment in the first one. The only word I thought might be some kind of slur was 'watermellon', in saying how Obama couldn't sell them. Now with all the other fruit references I'm going to explore the possiblity that all talk of produce is dangerously racially charged. What I really don't understand is why the gangrenous 'race' that grew up in a Native American culture is such a huge group to offend (green on the out side red on the inside?)?

Or maybe it is a slur against gangrenous gays if you consider the inside of a watermellon pink.

and coconut... really? That's even worse. The context isn't even right. Anyone with a scrap of critical thinking can see that even in a 24 second clip, which isn't great for getting context, the word 'coconut' is being used to describe someone as out on a limb, crazy, bizzar or off the wall. 'Wing nut', 'nut job', or 'waco' could have just as easily been used; none of which mean offense to the trades people of the world, the nut farmers, or the residents of waco TX.

Then there is the issue of people who self identify in fruit terms. I've met a handful of second and third generation Asians who have described themselves as banana's as an easy way to let people know the difficulties they have relating to recent immigrants of the same visible culture.

In broader terms even the notion of 'race' is something that is an anachronisim. Anyone who's read much about the world will quickly realize that skin colour has almost nothing to do with a person's comportment in society. Any stereotypes attributed to those of any skin colour quickly fall apart as it becomes known that each group of people identifiable by skin colour has a myriade of different cultural traits that are formed more through location of upbringing than by anything associated with skin pigments.

In short, using the term 'race' shows an amount of undereducation in today's world that will do little else but remove the user of the word from global political and economic debates due to the massive gap in understanding that it's use shows.

Jesus. This doesn't mean anything as far as being racist goes. Bush had 2 african-americans in his cabinet, but apparently they didn't count because they were Republicans. Alan Keyes is black. Michael Steele is black. Larry Elder is black. Fuck, Don King is a republican. Who cares? You're making a faulty argument that a lack of presence of one demographic group somehow implies something far more sinister.

Sorry man, I'm really trying not to get as adversarial with you lately, but I get irritated by baseless generalizations like this.

Write a whole dissertation why don't you

Seriously 17sss it looks like you're really hunting for something here. I know you get a lot of flack defending Faux news and this is your moment of 'right back atcha!' but this doesn't compare to the generally ostentatious nature of Faux news programming.

Bill O'reilly: N-n-n-no, simply answer yes or no, will any reforms not put forth by members of the GOP destroy America?

Guest: That's quite a loaded question Bill, I'd say-

O'reilly: Yes, or no. Simple question, simple answer

Guest: We'll I'd say considering-

O'reilly: Alright, alright, alright that's enough from you pinheads! Thanks for joining us on the factor.

50 million dumb American's just had their heads shoved in the proverbial sand, and fucking loved it without realizing what happened. O'Reilly upholds a standard suppression of free speech that not only stifles his guest's ability to communicate with potential audiences, but also denies himself and his audience the right to hear a new perspective and potentially learn a new idea.

This goes for MANY shows on MANY network news stations who refrain from formal, unabashed discourse and instead resort to name-calling and talking louder than the other person. I'm only attackin O'reilly because he makes it so easy. Every guest he gets that might dissent any of his positions he simply cuts off while talking, calls them a pinhead and yaps away.

I never denied there aren't black Republicans. Just showing how utterly stupid the premise of this thread is. If we're reducing our political discourse to calling the other party racist, then let's see who the real racists are, and that's all I'm doing. Yea, there are "some" black Republicans, but that sure isn't showing in the Congress. That fact isn't entirely meaningless.
