Recording a live set?? best way?

Hey guys
you know those liveset recordings such as asot, em, etc have crowd reactions also being recorded as well, does anyone know how its done?

my guess is record from a mic on the floor and also from a line-out then mix the two during post...is this right? or do they use some kind of special mic placed some where on the dance floor? what kind of mic do they use?

any insight would be great
thanks

Put the microphone directly next to the speaker so you can get the same experience that a candy raver would.

room micing. akg's are good for this, condensers in general, however dynamic mics get higher db input than a condenser, also condensers will need 48v. 2 mics front of stage, 2 mics back of stage like a square, equal distance. then 2 mics for stereo. dynamic mics right at the sweet spot of the speakers, sm57's work fine for this, you don't need anything fancy. condenser for crowd as they have a higher transient response compared to dynamic mics and will record a much crisper image of the crowd. then you can mix those together. hard pan stereo mic's and over lay crowd

eq'ing the crowd mic in's wouldn't be a bad idea

my god that's getting a little complicated...
do you think a zoom h4 would work well for recording the crowd? And have it hung from the ceiling?
