Satan (eek!) Backing up music, How-To?

backing up mp3's in case pc crashes, most ppl do it.
i'm just wondering how you guys keep track of what you got on mp3 and on what cd's there kept on.
winamp playlists(1 on cd,1 on pc) , windows excel. (like me)
or are there better ways ?

you can just save the cd layout(from your burn program) and number the cd then refer back to it put all the cd layouts on a cd and make a "glossary" of sorts ...i havent really payed much attention though to keeping track of what is on what disc because if my comp crashes ill just load them all back on anyway and find out then

write a text or word document that has a numbered list of all the cd's you have and whats on each one.

Or a cool thing that i just started doing is creating an autorun.inf file that autoloads every song on the cd into a playlist. that way, when you put the cd into your drive, it loads every song you have on it.

I use the text document to keep track of everything still though

download supercat. it catelogs all your cd within a second. when you want to know what track is on what disk you just type in a part of the track name and it searches for it in the catalogs. and it really fast...

I divide it all into 3 categories:
-)Full Albums & Dj sets
-)Music Videos
-)Volumes- Individual tracks

After labeling the CD (Full albums #56, Volume 85, etc...) I scan the CD with Where is it.

I just burn the cd's and when they are full albums i wait till i can get a cd full of them, organized in folders.
Then, after the burn,i just label the cd's with the folders names.
when it comes to trance-dance etc.,which is what I have mostly in my pc,i just place them all together and when i have a full cd of new songs i burn it and draw something like "Trance Collection 08" with permanent marker.does anyone know if it's harmful?
anyway,its a cool thing to get a 200 cd holder,these things rule!

but how can you find ever a particular track when you only mark your cd with "trance collection 08"?
its impossible. that is why i use supercat. i can find the specific track very fast in the catalogs. adn then you know on which cd it is.

Backup with CDs is tedious task, you'll find backing up to 2nd hardrive is a better solution. External drives are really nice, get 80-120 gigs go for around $300.

I have a 120 gig hd, with somewhere around 60 gigs of music on it so far, and I definately have problems backing up, this requires me to use in the neighborhood of 90-100 cd's to backup. Needless to say, it would be along and very difficult process, so how should I backup all this super awesome music so in case my hd coes bye bye (again, i lost my old mp3 16 gig colection due to a hd crash, and I dont want it to happen again.)
