Dunno Speakers

Hi guys

Got a question, I is a speaka noob.

I need to buy myself a PA system, so I can throw a bit of a decent party at home. It's a farm so noise is not a problem.

I was thinking of getting 2 active speakers like:
Behringer B215A 15in Active 2-Way Loudspeakers

Or maybe a something like the Yamaha stagepas 300

With the active speakers do I connect them directly to the master out on the mixer?
I would assume so, but the speaker cables look like they have some weird non RCA connector on them (XLR it says).

Another option is:
Wharfedale EVPX12P 12in 2-Way 300W Active Loudspeaker x2

What do you think is the best system for the price range these fall in? I am thinking the behringer, but I could be wrong.

Be Cool! Best Powered Speaker

I would say QSC K Series all the way.

Even 1 small K-8 $649 US would be louder than any of the PA's you have mentioned.

They have 500W RMS for the Horn and 500W RMS for the woofer. LOUD! and the BASS WOAH!!

They have both RCA in and XLR in so no matter what mixer you have you can connect.

Before you decide, I encourage you to take a listen to the QSC K series.

I sold my Mackies and bought these when I heard them. People can't believe it when I tell them that I'm only running 2 small speakers and no subwoofer.

They are selling like crazy here in the U.S. 6 year warranty, built-in fan, strong metal grill, light, can't beat it.

Shall check them out!
Mayhap I shall get one and then later get another one. It just doesn't seem right to only have one speaker.

I have a djm800 and I see it does have XLR out, so no problems there.

Smoking ..umm..something exactly what I did.

When I heard them that is what I did. Because I didn't have too much money at the time.

So I bought one and then 2 months later I got the second.

I'm glad I did. I feel spoiled with the sound these put out.

I can not find any qsc K series speakers and the one I did find was a Fing expensive.

What about Samson LIVE 1215 Two-Way Bi-Amped Active System, 500W RMS

Are samson any good?

or Behringer B215a 400 watts Powered Loudspeaker

Are Behringer any good?

did you try?

Hey man did you try these guys:

http://www.toms.co.za/contact.htm

I'd be surprised if they didn't have some QSC K-series to demo.

I would say Behringer will do the job. If you go with those they have some new ones B215A that are much better than their older stuff.

I've got a Behringer 215a and a JBL Eon 15 active, 2nd gen. I'd definitely recommend the Behringer. Great bang for the buck.

Hi all,

I am looking to get my first decent speakers that are good for a small event but won't destroy my bank account. A search of TA brought me to this thread.

After reading the users' comments and doing some research on my own I am very interested in the Behringer B215A, but am unsure how to use it with my current equipment. I am just getting started in the wonderful world of speakers, so my questions probably are very simple.

I use a Numark Omni Control (along with Traktor on my laptop) when I perform live. The Omni Control has an RCA output while the Behringer B215a has an XLR input. There are adapters that will connect the 2 RCA (both red and white) cables into 1 XLR cable. Are there any issues with sound quality using this type of adapter?

If I use two speakers, will I need to have a XLR-to-XLR cable go from the line output of the first speaker (the speaker connected to the Omni Control) to the second speaker?

For a room that is ~20'x40', will one speaker be decent?

Thanks in advance.

Hmm...I am not sure about the speaker to speaker connection. I know you could always pick up one of those inexpensive mixing boards where you plug everything into the ins and then it has multiple outs. Behringer makes some basic ones for like 40-60 bucks at Guitar Center.

Quality-wise, for PAs (and monitors for that matter), it'd be better if you had balanced outs (XLR or 1/4 in connections) because that means little to no interference or static sounds on your PAs. Also, you can run much longer XLR cables if you need to position the PAs far away from your Omni Control. You can get away with RCAs if you have to though (I did with my DJM-400 back in the day, which had no balanced outs, only RCAs). But MOST IMPORTANTLY, if you go RCA, pick up a few ground loop isolators from Radio Shack. they're under 20 bucks each and will significantly cut down on the static/interference from the RCAs, your laptop, etc.

One other option I thought of are direct boxes, which convert unbalanced to balanced. I've never used one myself though.

The adaptor you linked to isn't what you want. You want 2 x RCA - 2 x XLR. Something like this. It doesn't matter if you buy two individual single XLR - single RCA leads, or 1 lead which has two connectors at each end (although two singles would probably be more practical if you're placing the speakers any kind of distance apart).

The main thing to remember is that if the lead only has one connector of one type and two of the other then it's not right.
