I'll post this in DJ booth too but I need some input from within here. It'll be limited mainly to the Trance genre and I'm thinking to limit sets to 1 hour but I need additional criteria to help make it interesting.
Perhaps:
-Limited only to tracks from the previous...3 years?
-Must include at least 1 track produced by a TA?
Thoughts?

remember that 246 radio contest? in the later stages i believe they required that the dj spin his own production, i think thats a neat idea.

you should clearly give restrictions in terms of mp3 quality(ie 192 only via sendspace,megaupload etc) will make your life easier , naming of files, clear genre restrictions
maybe post full judging criteria (ie is this mix ripped from charts? or featuring more underground producers ) etc. marks for originality and overall flow...

You should also emphesize wheather this is a live set or an edited set. Anyone can create a mix on Mixmeister or Ableton, but they can't mix for shit live. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't want the winner to completely suck live at the festival.

I don't think it should be restricted to tracks released within a certain time frame, but having at least one track produced by a TA in it is a quality idea

I said the suggested limit on tracks not older than 3 years so that people don't go out grabbing cookie-cutter 'hits'. I can remove the time restriction.
Also, good points on whether it is edited or liveset...maybe another requirement is that they've actually played gigs at clubs before. Nothing against bedroom DJs but this wouldn't be a suitable place for a first gig, lol.
