Do producers use ready made synth loops?

I'm intrigued.......

Future Music mag has dozens of sample collections being marketed, and whilst I get the need for one shot sample sounds, and using some drum loops, why are there so many collections of 'to go' synth loops being marketed - are pros actually using these?

Example of marketing claims;

"100 main room ready synth / bass loops"
"ready to go synth loops"
"hip hop synth / string loops ready to slot straight into your next hit"

Does this mean pros are using these in thier productions and does this mean I'm missing out on a whole lot of time saving, painless 'ready to go hit making'

OR - are these all only used by noobs?

I've lately been going back to my 'roots', what I started with. That means purely sample based production. In my latest 2 productions I haven't used any software or hardwaresynths whatsoever.

In these specific cases I've used one entire synthloop and parts I liked from several others.

Synth loops are only used by n00bs IMO.

I think instrumental loops are different. but synth loops your should be able to do yourself.

But these days I tend to think that whatever works is good, so if you can get results out of synth loops then go for it I guess. I personally don't.

Yes many do but they often chop/change/warp/mangle them to beyond recognition. I have no issues with it at all.

I found a really nice bassline on a sample cd, trying to build a track around it. Will see how it goes.

Never. Never, ever, never.

I will only use percussion loops and only then as a background layer of the rhythm section including individually triggered drum elements.

I only use a perc loop here and there. Not saying I wouldn't use a musical loop of some sort but I wouldn't want it to be the basis of my track.

My favourite occurrence is when some old dance ejay loop turns up in a released track every now and again.

I'm not a fan of synth loops. I personally think it's kind of limited for making them your own. With percussion loops you can tweak them to make them your sound.

But whatever works, works.

i never used one but i think i'll start using something because some perc loops are just amazing and you've them on 1 layer and in one second.

Ditto. I don't have a problem with other people using them, but I personally don't see the point in using someone else's melodies, bass lines, chord progressions, etc. as is - that's the part I like best, so it takes all the satisfaction out of music creation as far as I'm concerned. That said, mangling loops into something unrecognizable is an art form unto itself and you can get some pretty cool filler effect sounds to layer into your tracks by doing this. I haven't really spent much time doing this, but I recently picked up The Finger and Deep Freq from NI for creating some vocal FX, and I'm finding that it's very cool to run various musical loops through them (and sometimes Melodyne to re-pitch them to the correct key). I think I may layer some of these loops into an ambient piece that I'm currently working on.
