I'm completely new at this, so I was looking for which might be easier to get started with. I'm running on a Mac, so I know Logic Pro might be a little bit more geared towards that, but other than that, any suggestions?

Well, first try both and see which you like best.
Lots of people say that Logic has a steeper learning curve but nicer included synths and effects. I tend to agree with that.

Depends on who you are and what YOU need.
There are multiple options on Mac:
Cubase, Ableton, Logic, Digital Performer, Garageband, etc.
Best thing to do it download demos if available or review the product literature on each site and determine which package suits you best. There are loads of tutorials and feature tours on YouTube.
Choosing a DAW package is a very personal choice. One of us will tell you that Logic is best, while another might tell you that DP is better or Ableton is best. This is based purely on personal opinion, so the best thing to do is do some research and try to see which one works best for you.

Do you know of any good torrent programs for Macs? I'm trying to also avoid the price tag.

You're asking one of the forbidden questions.
You will be subjected to the ultimate sanction: A series of half-hearted, smart-assed replies which, like any serious answer you'd get, mean absolutely nothing.
