Depends.
Some routers are pretty easy to use.
What type do you got?

TRIGGER Port. The outbound port number that the application or a game assigned first. (also called OUT ports)

PUBLIC port numbers are port numbers that are available for use by any application to use in communicating with any other application, using the Internet's Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) or the User Datagram Protocol (UDP). When one application communicates with another application at another host computer on the Internet, it specifies that application in each data transmission by using its port number. The port numbers range from 0 through 65535. (Also called IN ports)

[edit]
Actually these were taken from the SMC Forum in case you need to look up anything else.

That depends...
Does an application on your computer need that port open or is something/someone else going to connect to you from outside your computer? In or out?

[edit] Do you want the application to 'trigger' the port to be opened or do you want it open all the time?
From what I'm reading, the trigger option will open the port when the requested application that you start on your computer needs it.
If you make it Public, it will be open all the time.
