Kevin Shawn - Never Again

I wanted to work with a scale that I had never worked with and picked D# minor this time around. Never again this was a tough key to pull a melody out of that was pleasing to my ears. Fought through some frustration and managed to get it done. Still learning so much everyday it's amazing!

Early hour type track not really in a hurry to get anywhere

I think this track probably works more on a technical level than a musical one.

It's well mixed, sound choices are good and the preogressions work.

Musically I found it a little staid, and in fact some of the melodic elements sounded a bit forced (you said you struggled with the scale?)

It's an accomplished mix however, and it's also a finished mix so kudos for that!

As you mentioned, the D# is a challenge

The way that bass pumps everything in and out really does my head in.

Great mixing and atmosphere here.
The downside is it does'nt go anywhere - whic h you hinted at in your OP, but even a laid back minimalesque track needs a sense of journey and resolution IMO.

The piano for me is totaly out of place with the rest - the rest is cool and dark whereas nthe piano seems like it was shoe horned in from an uplifters harddrive!

With mixing this good your'e on your way though!

It's a nice little track.

I think one of the problems is that you introduce the melody very early with all the elements along side it, so when you bring it back in it doesn't deliver anything new.

I like the creativity with the bass, but it could perhaps do with a higher bass to give the track some drive as it tends to plod along a little at the moment.

The track comes across as a little dry, and doesn't really present any real feeling of depth or space that it occupies in my ears.

It's a nice offering over all but a little bit linear.

Nice production skills though and thanks for sharing.

Cheers
Nem
