THE SIMON COWELL SECTION / THE 'BRUTAL TRUTH FEEDBACK THREAD'.

Would it be possible to have a thread/section here in the production forum (not the feedback section), called THE BRUTAL TRUTH THREAD or THE SIMON COWELL DUNGEON OF DISPAIR where we dare post our works (only 1 track at a time and max 1 per 7 days) and EXPECT only brutal cold hard feedback?

That way if you only want positive 'constructive' feedback you can use the normal feedback section, but for others who really are intent on self improvement, a bit of Military whuppin into shape is great motivation and very useful.

Sure not everyone wants to hammer themselves to death and many just want an enjoyable hobby and I would not critiscise thier path at all, but I personally benefit from undiluted honesty (but still get sore and p1ssed off like everyone else though - afterall wasn't that track I've been working on just going to blow people away.....).

WHY?

Well given the comment by that beatport guy that 'most releases suck' and let's face facts, he's right, I for one would rather be whipped into shape and get better.

So often we say a track is good but I'd bet 99 x out of 100 we wouldn't by that track if we auditioned it on beatport and did not know the artist.

RULES - no fluffy back slapping / keep it real / don't feel the need to end on a positive / just feedback as if you are Simon Cowell

So who's for it - is it allowed?

Just wait for my comments.

They're always the cold, hard, brutal truth. As I see it of course.

And who, the fuck, is the bloke on Beatport supposed to be as a commentor of taste and quality?

I genuinly think you should stop worrying so much about what other people think of your shizzle.

I'm afraid I wanna be the Steven Spielberg whore of production. My mate wants to make music for him that he likes and I don't critiscise him.

Yes, but the problem with other people's opinion is that it's often blinded by genre hate

For example, there could be a song that's widly regarded as the greatest Country and Western track ever made, and i'd think it was shite.

I agree with tehlord. Its a good idea in theory, but would need dedicated, unbiased judges, and even then, no guarantees they'd like the style/song even if its good for its genre.

That being said, would be a nice idea.

I'd also like to add that (following the cooking analogy) I prefer Jamie Oliver to Gary Rhodes. I like flavour, not anal perfection and tidy carrots.

Music should be about enjoyment, not the pursuit of perfection.

Opinion and taste will colour things but I still think a brutal feedback thread would be worth a crack and should give me a kick up the butt and probably a reality check!!

You've failed to realise you're already your own hardest critic

But yeah, it's a great idea otherwise

Its a good idea but im not sure, if it would be successfull and helpfull.
For one, there are too much arogant pricks around here that are forsing their gender/style, and by default everything else is bullshit.
And ofcourse since we all know that trance is dead, you would be bashed and called cheesy if you make anything that sounds like it, and it would automacly become "generic shit".
Also how would you decide, who should be a reviewer? What makes your thought/opinion more valid than mine, and vise versa?

Bottom line is, it would be just various hating from all sides, and you already have cor for that...

Oh please.

Even though a lot of people hate classical music, they still effing use it in movies because it still provokes emotion.

If it's a great track, it'll transcend "genre boundaries."
