Stewart/Colbert Rallies, will they help or hurt the election in the States?

So Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert have taken a whole week to announce that they are going to be hosting "opposing" rallies in Washington, D.C.

Some say this will help to give a voice to the silent majority and some say that it will take away volunteers from the Get Out and Vote door to door campaign.

I personally can't see it hurting.

It would be also fun to go to this thing.

i love how in canada and the US, the elitists and the self deserving are running scared. The silent majority is speaking up and they have had enough of tax and spend socialism. Now i dont agree with the far right in the US, but i do agree with the idea that the government should be less interfering and allow more free market and libertarian principals.

In canada im a right wing person. But due to my liberal social views, in the US id be a right leaning democrat.

People can only take so much of the government taking away their financial and personal freedom before they strike back.

We are seeing it with Rob Ford, next year with Mcguinty and in the US a lot of people are already fed up with Obama.

"America, take it down a notch"

I like the idea, I think it was an inevitable outcome from the masses of educated Americans turning from traditional news sources to 'comedy' ones in an effort to laugh at what has become a laughable political system.

Jay, you are right, I believe the people are fed up. But in every statement you make about people being 'fed up', you always add a word or two to preach your anti-socialist dogma which is never the universal statement you present it as.

People might be fed up with sensationalism, the influence of celebrity in politics, the stagnant and adversarial nature of their two party system and the lack of intelligent dialog, but the purpose of this rally is not to push away socialism. If you watch the show at all, even the one where Stewart made his announcement, there is no way one could argue that Stewart or even Colbert [in his convoluted self deprecating way] are against 'tax and spend' socialism in the absolute terms you describe it.

From what I understand the silent majority are the moderates and the loud mouths are the tea partiers, they are definitely not silent and definitely not a majority. To me it looks like Stewart/Colbert are trying to get out the voice of the liberals, not the right wing nuts.

"I disagree with you, but I'm pretty sure you're not Hitler"
haha, even if you don't agree with his politics, Jon Stewart is always entertaining.
